Did you guys get up very high on the mountains? I'm used to the altitude here (I hike and climb 14ers numerous times in a season), but for sea-level creatures it can do a number on you. mountainman 0 #5 August 2, 2002 We got up pretty high while we were there. We hiked one day up in the Park. The final altitude was only about 10,100'. However, the day of mountain biking was up on the Continental Divide. We were biking up around 12,000' for awhile and climbed 1200 vertical feet. Not too shabby for a couple of midwesterners. Viking - that is the V6 brand, but for a rental car and convertible, it kicked some major ass. It was fun to cruise around in the droptop - especially in that heat they had. And, that place was so awesome for photography. I love taking pictures now for some reason. It has totally captivated me when I travel. CanuckInUSA 0 #9 August 2, 2002 If I'm not mistaken, the picture of the "No fishing from the bridge" was from the Royal Gorge bridge west of Pueblo which once again if I'm not mistaken is the tallest bridge in the states. We're not sure where yet, but it will probably be somewhere warm and hopefully somewhere foreign. Canuck...that is the same bridge. indyz 1 #12 August 2, 2002 I remember that bridge from a vacation a few years back. Mom was so freaked out that she walked straight down the middle, then refused the take the cable car back. I thought about the BASE possibilities recently (I can dream), but the only landing area that I can rememeber is a tiny little spot for the tourists to get close to the river. mountainman 0 #13 August 2, 2002 Hey Phree...you are right. There are usually some great rapids down there (4/5+). We were supposed to do a double Gorge trip (twice through the hard part in one day), but Laura got hurt while mountain biking the day before. So, we had to cancel the rafting. It didn't matter a whole lot though because the water levels there are really low and they are only running 3/4 rapids. So, I wasn't too bummed.
