Feel every moment of it (your first solo jump - TC)-- it's the one that really sets the hook. Feel the hill on exit, look at the clouds and ground in freefall, get a view of the countryside miles around you. Play on the relative wind, like a kitten being tossed in the paws of a mama tiger who would just as soon eat you as play with you. Marvel in this fierce and fantastic thing we do. It's your first chance for it to be just you, the sky, the ground and your rig; no one and nothing else. Savor it.

...and he was so right! On Saturday I did two jumps from the top, just me and my own rig alone in the sky for the first time, and they were the absolutely best jumps yet. No instructors to 'perform' for, no skills I HAD to do to pass to the next level. I chose what I wanted to do and just enjoyed and savoured the entire trip so much I wanted to burst with euphoria by the time I landed... and both times I stood up the landing under my beautiful Falcon. Yup, I'm completely hooked. Someone haul me down from the clouds, my brain is still up there. Good thing my work is very involving and distracting, or I wouldn't get anything done. All I can think about is the last jump and the next jump.

When does the obsession ease off a bit, though? I really need to get a few other things done sometimes.;)

Women and cats will do as they please, and men and dogs should relax and get used to the idea.

Sorry Snowbird. I lived in a nice townhouse with a nice sportscar n' motorcyle. Lots of trips to the beach and scuba diving. WInters in the mountains going downhill skiing.
Now..... I live in a trailer on the DZ. The car is beat up from hitting a deer on the way to the DZ (can't get it fixed on the weekend, I'd miss a jump), bike burned up riding to other DZs (car needed tires), Ski's haven't left the closet in two years, Scuba gear is gone (which is OK cause I haven't seen the beach except from the air for a swoop!). Get the picture now?B|
Shoulda took up heroine... it's cheaper and easier to quit....

That's poetic and well written. Very intense words to describe the sport.
