Jasmin 0 #1 August 13, 2002 This is intended to piss off people! Have a read of the AFF thread in the incident forum and see what conclusion you come to.... "If at first you don't succeed, skydiving is NOT for you..." "Never underestimate the ingenuity of stupidity..." I say that we are making the world so idiot proof that we are no longer allowing the natural Darwinian process to occur! This is then ensuring that these "stupid" genes are remaining in the human gene pool to mix with "smarter" genes, with the overall effect of making the human race more idiotic. Just look at a few of the public liability cases pending and you see how people are being encouraged to employ (and then rewarded for) their stupidity!? (And then we pay for it via insurance premiums!?!!!) www.darwinawards.com xj From someone who should've known better!? (I'm majoring in medical science and medical radiation physics....and should've had my genes strained out of the gene pool at least a generation back!?) We reward people stupid enough to (for example) stagger drunk into a freeway and get hit by a car. That's good for a multimillion dollar lawsuit against a driver any day. >I'm majoring in medical science and medical radiation physics . . . Reminds me of a song! I study nuclear science I love my classes I got a groovy teacher, he wears dark glasses Things are going great, and they're only getting better I'm doing all right, getting good grades The future's so bright, I gotta wear shades

How is this the opposite of what Jasmin kvetched about? By rewarding the schlub who walked onto the freeway drunk, we are perpetuating the stupidity instead of weeding it out. Still, stupid people will insist on killing themselves, regardless of how difficult society makes it for them.A One that Isn't Cold is Scarcely a One at All

I agree with Jasmin for the most part.

Deuce 1 #6 August 13, 2002 My favorite amazingly stupid death reward was the guy in Chicago (I'm pretty sure about the location, and I know the story is true) who wandered off the subway tracks and took a leak on the third rail. He grounded all the way back to his kidneys and didn't know what hit him. His family collected against the T.A., they were somehow supposed to protect this idiot from himself. The surviving family members are now wealthy, and presumably are continuing his gene line. Dang, Jasmin, with that kind of edumacation, you should be able to invent some kind of medical science radiation physics treatment to realign the genes in a less stupid configuration. There are sure a whole lot of smart people in skydiving. Jumped last weekend with a physicist from Sandia labs. I just hang out on the wall and pretend I ever understood about electron shells and energy states and stuff. You go!
IronMike 0 #7 August 14, 2002 I work for a big railroad and I would say we have some moron kill themselves every 2 days or so. Everything from going around gates to bums falling off trains. My company has so much money they just pay most of these people (or their families) to go away...It pisses me off..

I did work experience whilst in high school at UNSW doing something like that....genetically modifying malaria samples to make them switch "off"....seriously boring stuff! I want to use the MedRadPhys to work in oncology and the MedSci is (seriously) just for fun.xj "I wouldn't recommend picking a fight with the earth...but then I wouldn't recommend picking a fight with a car either, and that's having tried both." Jasmin 0 #10 August 14, 2002 Say.....now there's an idea! Just imagine what you could get up to with an extra arm..... No, I'm not that extreme. I don't agree with the cloning of entire human beings (they'd have no history, no memory, no childhood!) but I do believe in responsibly using science to save lives. I also think we need to look more thoroughly into alternative medicine and traditional medicine too. For example: 1 in 12 Australian women will experience active or benign breast cancer. 1 in 20,000 Chinese women will suffer some form of breast cancer.....We're doing something very very wrong!!! I think lifestyle and diet are very much to blame for a lot of diseases and their triggering. Apparently I'm not the only person thinking along these lines! Y'anyways that's just my $0.02 and a bit!xj "I wouldn't recommend picking a fight with the earth...but then I wouldn't recommend picking a fight with a car either, and that's having tried both."
