PLFXpert 0 #1 August 14, 2002 This is not skydiving related but I needed to vent. I know most people would not complain about having too much money in their account, so let me be one of the few. My account has an additional $50.95 in it. I am a perfectionist, very organized and VERY meticulous about my banking. I write every transaction down in my register the minute I make it. I NEVER use my debit card b/c of all the merchants out there who like to place holds on your account when you use it. I only pay in cash or by check. So this leaves LITTLE room for error. I check all my checks, weekly, online to make sure they've gone through for the correct amount. I check everything, weekly, and everything has always been correct according to what I have recorded in my register. So where the hell did the extra $50.95 come from??? I re-calculated all my transactions since the beginning of the year and nothing turned up. I called my bank and they show no mistakes. Every check I've written has been accounted for and has gone through. Every deposit shows up correctly and every withdrawal. I'm loosing my mind. CanuckInUSA 0 #3 August 14, 2002 If you can say for sure that you haven't missed a transaction, then it sounds like your bank has messed up. Stay calm, don't mess with anything. But monitor your account so that you know when or if the bank takes back that $59. And if they don't, woo-hoo you're buying the next round right? Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
FliegendeWolf 0 #4 August 14, 2002 Carrie: I can totally relate to that. I get the same way, because I don't want to spend money that I think is there and end up bouncing a check or something. Can you crossreference your register with the online record transaction by transaction and try to find the point where you got off? Sometimes these errors show up in the most innocuous places. I suggest making an Excel spreadsheet comparing the two registers. I had to do this last month and found out that my roommate never cashed a check I wrote him. Good luck finding it! PLFXpert 0 #5 August 14, 2002 Jt, I KNOW I didn't make a mistake. But just in case, I went back and checked EVERYTHING for the last 4 months and everything is correct. I wouldn't care spend it, not knowing if it's mine or not. At first I figured, hey, maybe b/c I'm such a good customer, the bank decided to reward me. Ha ha ha ha. YEA RIGHT. I did call them, though, and the representative didn't seem to have a clue. She said she showed no mistakes. It's aggravating b/c I get to go home and spend the whole evening going back through my statements.
konradptr 0 #6 August 14, 2002 But if you called the bank and they claim that everything is good on their end, then screw them. The money had to come from somewhere, maybe is was a deposit from an account with numbers similar to your, but the only option that you have now is to enjoy it, or to donate it back to the bank and insist that they take it back, even if they don't want it... goose491 0 #7 August 14, 2002 That's weird. I had a similar problem last week, it seems there was a debit transaction on my account in the amount of $50.95 and I don't know who took it! If I find out though... boy o boy... My Karma ran over my Dogma!!!

kingbunky 3 #9 August 14, 2002 all things considered, $50 isn't a lot of money. i'd rather have it than owe it, but it still isn't a lot of money, so, remember the golden rule: don't sweat the petty things, don't pet the sweaty things. PLFXpert 0 #12 August 14, 2002 Yea, I've checked ALL my checks and they've all gone through. I know, not to sweat the petty things, but sometimes, you just can't help it. This type of thing really aggravates the shit out of me but thank GOD it's in my favor and not against. Thanks for the support, guys. I know it's silly, but it's going to cause me hours of looking over bank statements, and I'm not looking forward to it.
captainquim 0 #13 August 14, 2002 Quote 'I re-calculated all my transactions since the beginning of the year' whoa! i reckon that i couldn't tell you what is in my bank account to better than +/- £300 accuracy. i just wait until it can't give me anymore then start using my credit card. i never check my bank account - it is far too scary, and not worth the worry. Pammi 0 #16 August 14, 2002 ROFL! Now if it were me...I'd say all was well that I was that close to what I thought the balance was If it's only $50-ish off...I'm doing well! That is also why Merrick handles the checkbook and bill paying He is VERY much like you and frets over a few pennies! Maybe you can have someone else double-check you? Sometimes if you stare at it too long you just can't tell...you miss obvious things... Was it all good last week when you checked? If so...then it has to be within the last week right? PLFXpert 0 #18 August 14, 2002 Yea, part of me says, f*ck it, if it's there in 3 months, I'll spend it. But I know me, and I know I won't rest until I figure it out. At this point, though, it HAS to be a bank mistake in my favor, even though they don't show that, because I've checked all my shit twice and it's all correct.
