Way OT: New toy (LED lights)

Recommended Posts

Thought I'd let everyone know all about the most exciting thing to happen to me today so far:P
Alright... I bought in to CNN's advertising pitch and bought one of the "New produts" that they did a story on earlier this week in the noon segment tonight. They were doing a story on energy and different light sources and they mentioned LED lights then did a background/new products piece on some. One of the objects was a LED flashlight. While shopping in a local sporting goods store tonight I saw a LED flashlight in the clearence bin for 5.99. I've been needing a new flashligh and being the geek I am I grabbed it. I figured if nothing else I can put it in the gear bag and use it for night jumps to check the canopy.

I got a single AA battery model that promises about 40 hours of light off a single batter compaired to 4-6 on a normal bulb. The life span of the bulb is 10000 hours. It also says the light will never go dimmer so thats cool too. The thing is bright up close. Its way brighter then a normal Pen light at less then a foot. But my model does'nt have a focus on it so it spreads the light out fairly quickly. Also the light is a blueish shade of white. I like it a lot and its going in my camping bag for sure and I'm going to keep my eyes out of a 2 battery model if it last this good after a month or two. I might start looking at getting more LED lights and lamps just so I don't ever have to change bulbs or batteries again.
Yesterday is history
And tomorrow is a mystery

I've got a Petzl Zipka, which is a super tiny, ultra compact LED headlamp. Whenever I pull it out at the exit point, everyone has to look at it. I've even had to retrieve it from a few friend's gear bags after road trips.

I love technology. It just keeps getting better.
