Newbie 0 #1 August 19, 2002 Do you need a qualification of some kind? How many pack jobs did you all have under your belts before you started packing other peoples chutes? Will a DZO or CCI want to see something before he/she will employ me to pack, and what experience will they want to see? kingbunky 3 #2 August 19, 2002 i'm not sure how it works in the uk, but at my dz (in canada) we have to do 10 supervised packs, then they mess one up real good (several twists in the lines) and you have to straighten it out, pack it and jump it yourself. after that, you're allowed to pack "professionally"."Hang on a sec, the young'uns are throwin' beer cans at a golf cart." bbarnhouse 0 #3 August 19, 2002 Most larger DZs have concessions. The concession is overseen by a rigger. (many packers have their riggers ticket) You should be able to pack a parachute in 12 minutes or less. This varies from drop zone to drop zone. cheers

goose491 0 #7 August 19, 2002 DON'T DO IT MAN! At my DZ, if you can pack student rigs... your ass belongs to the DZO! You'll make a lot of coin... in the packing trailer... listening to people laughing and having fun outside... "Ahh outside... I remember outside..." -Almost anyone of our packers on any given busy day. My Karma ran over my Dogma!!!

howardwhite 6 #11 August 19, 2002 In the US, packers must be "under the direct supervision" of a licensed rigger. This is interpreted in wildly varying fashion at different DZs -- for example at one DZ I frequent, only licensed rigggers pack tandems and student rigs, while at another, only one of three plus tandem packers is a rigger. They work hard, bitch a lot and make great money for teen agers. HW
skygod7777 0 #12 August 19, 2002 Quote You should be able to pack a parachute in 12 minutes or less. in my opinion, being a packer, you should be able to pack faster than that to make money, and keep up with the rigs coming in(if your at a busy dz) you don't need to have too many packjobs to be a packer, if you can do it neat, and right, and fast, then your good to go and having your riggers ticket, is a big plus but that's just my opinion, and opinions are like assholes.................everyone's got one.................and they alll stink blue sky's and long swoops kelly "hook low, flare late...........dirt, tumble dirt............ouch"
