newbird 0 #1 August 19, 2002 I was very silly apon returning from sweden where I learned to jump.. consulted noone and bought a rig that was no good for me...opps oh ell live and learn. I am a newbie with about 50 jump 9 of which were static line. thing is I've decided to not jump with this old raggity peice of sh*t due to its unpredictable nature and my skill level... I'm 6'2" bout 200lbs. what do YOU think would be the ideal rig for me..
 PhreeZone 20 #2 August 19, 2002 ZP canopy... about 190-210 in size. Something like a Spectre, Sabre, or Triathlon. If your instructors agree... maybe a Sabre2, Safire2, Hornet. Reserve in the 193-220 range. Nice harness and a cypres.Yesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com
 rhino 0 #3 August 19, 2002 Agreed... I would always chose a seven call canopy as a first for anyone..
 goose491 0 #4 August 19, 2002 Just look to the "complete systems" section of the classifieds on this site and also maybe on enclave.com most people will put the ideal height and weight for their harness/container. As far as canopies go.. get yourself a 97 Vx... Just kidding You'll want to load your first canopy at close to 1:1. that's one pound per square foot... Most importantly, ask around Your DZ. Experienced jumpers that see you jump will have great advice. What did you buy by the way??? Nick My Karma ran over my Dogma!!! Yeah, I bought a Spectre (PD 7 cell) as my first and don't think I could have made a better choice! Easy to pack, slightly docile and you can do ANYTHING with it definately a good first canopy. Make sure you get a container safe for free-flying My Karma ran over my Dogma!!! I was con'ed into buying a rig that didn't fit me either. I didn't know anybody in the sport when I bought when and sales people are sales people whether they're skydivers or not. I bought a HUGE Dolphin that was WAY TOO BIG for me and not freefly friendly. My rig had so many variation on it to keep it from falling off me and to make it freefly safe. It looked really funny. Finally, someone bought it and I bought a Javelin NJ that was made to fit a girl EXACTLY my size. I learned my lesson, that's for sure. Normally, I"m not an easy one to pull a fast one on. I guess I was just so excited to get my first rig, I bought the first thing offered to me. A buddy at my club sold me his dolphin (only had about 20 jumps) but the container was a D4 and the main I was going to put in was a 150, yep the container is huge for the 150 (for 150 you need a D1)(tight closing loop fixed it). Now I jump with a huge container in my back (looks like a tandem on video). Only good thing is that I got a good deal. Exit weight of 230? 50 jumps under Mantas? A square or very light elliptical (Spectre etc) in the 220-250sq ft range. Keep that until you can flat turn, flare turn, yadda yadda then downsize.
