FallRate 0 #1 August 20, 2002 Ok, this may seem trivial but I need a region 2 DVD player and don't feel like paying through the nose for it. So is there a compassionate Brit out there who would be willing to purchase one and have it shipped to me via FedEx? Of course, I'll send the money first. In case you are wondering why I need a region 2 player, please don't ask. The reason is quite sad. FallRate
gus 1 #2 August 20, 2002 Can you buy a DVD drive for your computer and just region free it? No region issues and no NTSC vs PAL, that's how I've watched my Good Stuff DVD! Can you wear out DVDs? GusOutpatientsOnline.com
nacmacfeegle 0 #3 August 20, 2002 Try hacking your DVD player eg this uk site http://www.dvdaddicts.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/hacks.htm These are normally simple chip relacements, or firmware rewriting...of course you void any warranties that might exist... I'm guessing something similar exists for US players... good luck.-------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. SkydiveMonkey 0 #4 August 20, 2002 Quoteof course you void any warranties that might exist Maybe not - if a fault occurs and it's not related to the chip, the warranty can sometimes still be valid.____________________ Say no to subliminal messages
nacmacfeegle 0 #5 August 20, 2002 You may be right Alex, I'm assuming the work is carried out by 'unauthorised' people/orgs. I'm basing my assumption on experience with rewriting firmware in camcorders....another long story/big gripe.-------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. SkydiveMonkey 0 #6 August 20, 2002 I know a friend of mine had a problem with the cd motor in his chipped playstation and even though Sony knew it was chipped, they replaced it. Didn't think they would.____________________ Say no to subliminal messages

SkydiveMonkey 0 #8 August 20, 2002 If you play DVD's on your pc, there's a great program called DVD genie that will auto set the region and launch your selected player. It will also reset the number of times you can change regions.____________________ Say no to subliminal messages
