MyUserID 0 #1 August 22, 2002 Okay, I know there are a lot of you out there that know computers in and out. My compaq laptop proved that ya get what ya pay for last night when the jack in the back of the computer that the power cable plugs into actually separated from the circuit board that it was attached to. Anybody have any idea what it would take to fix that, and how much it would cost? ------------------------------------------------------ Remember kids, eagles may soar, but at least weasels dont get sucked into jet engines. WFFC 1 #2 August 22, 2002 First question would be status of the warranty. Second, take it in and if you complain that the product sucks enough they'll probably do it for free.----- ~~~Michael
MyUserID 0 #3 August 22, 2002 Nope, no warranty. ------------------------------------------------------ Remember kids, eagles may soar, but at least weasels dont get sucked into jet engines.

MyUserID 0 #5 August 22, 2002 LOL, that's exactly what I said lastnight. Oh well, maybe I can use it as a way of justifying the purchase of a new laptop. ------------------------------------------------------ Remember kids, eagles may soar, but at least weasels dont get sucked into jet engines. Rdutch 0 #6 August 22, 2002 How are you at soldering? Shouldnt be hard to fix at all. Ray Ray Small and fast what every girl dreams of!
MyUserID 0 #7 August 22, 2002 Well, the plastic mount that holds the jack broke as well. Besides, those parts are so small. I would be worried about not disposing enough of the heat in the process and frying other parts. I wonder if I have to just replace the whole motherboard. Eek ! ------------------------------------------------------ Remember kids, eagles may soar, but at least weasels dont get sucked into jet engines. wildblue 7 #8 August 22, 2002 Anybody know if CompUSA still works on laptops? Or else find a local computer shop that does repairs - they'll usually look at it for free and tell you what it'd take to fix it. Doesn't sound like it'd cost more than $50 - $100it's like incest - you're substituting convenience for quality
jessefs 0 #9 August 22, 2002 $50 - $100 sounds about right...max. Some of those guys are like car salesmen, don't let them talk you into a new motherboard <* Spread the Love! *>
Marz 0 #10 August 22, 2002 If a computer shop can fix it, great, but I know that alot of Compac's hardware is proprietary. I.e. if you want more RAM for a COMPAC, you gotta buy it from COMPAC. Packard Bell is the same way. I'm not sure how this is going to affect getting your computer fixed _________________________________________ Did I just kill another thread?
