Airhead 0 #1 August 30, 2002 Hi all! I am really new to skydiving...but it's really in my blood already! I had my first tandem at the end of July...The weekend before my birthday. The BEST present I ever gave to me!! The next weekend I was back for more. I began a progression program. I've done four tandem and am now on to learning freefal and all the maneures with my own cute on my back. I'm learning at a DZ that normally does an program utilizing one JM but I'm gonna pay extra for a 2nd JM until I feel ready to go 1 on 1 with a JM jumping out with me. It's a long drive to the DZ where I'm learning so it's gonna be an early morning for me to get to the 8AM class. I need to go to bed confident and wake up happily looking forward to an awesome day. PLEASE can you all give me some GREAT tips to center my mind and prepare myself for what lies ahead? THANX to all...blue skies and warm breezes. eeneR 3 #4 August 30, 2002 Where are you going to be training at? You could always invest in a tent and drive out the night before!!! BTW Good Luck!!! diverdriver 6 #7 August 30, 2002 Breath deep. Focus on your instructors and what they are telling you. Then just do your job like you practice on the ground. You made the commitment to go out that door on the tandems. Now, just make that commitment to go out the door with your AFP instructor(s). Yes,,,,and smile....you'd be amazed at how that can relax you. You'll do fine. Chris
jraf 0 #8 August 30, 2002 Pop, you're the Man. By the way - am I missing something - AFF 1 with only one JM. Strange? Is that a USPA DZ?jraf Me Jungleman! Me have large Babalui. Muff #3275

jlmiracle 7 #12 August 30, 2002 [I've done four tandem and am now on to learning freefal and all the maneures with my own cute on my back. ] 4 tandems - all I can say is arch, relax (SMILE) and LEGS OUT. You know what freefall is all about. Its alot easier without someone on your back. Good luck, have fun, keep us posted. Blue Skies and Soft Landings. Hooknswoop 19 #13 August 30, 2002 Don't worry about only having 1 instructor. On exit 1 instructor isn't helping, and you aren't going anywhere. In taking 700ish AFP students (1 JM) I was never rolled over, I didn't get rolled over until I started doing AFF (2 JM's). Hook
Albatross 0 #14 August 30, 2002 Have fun!!!! Don't worry about having 1 JM they wouldn't let you go if you weren't ready. Besides in the end the JM SHOULD only be there to watch you. IF you relax, arch and visualize the dive you will sail through.Chris
Airhead 0 #15 August 30, 2002 THANX EENEr, WHERE am I AFP at? Michigan's Skydive Hastings. You can check them out at www.skydivehastings.com. I would consider tent and sleeping bag, but not this time. I'm not familiar enuff with the bunch there yet, and it's possible that it might cause me more stress than fun and R&R at this point. I'm thinking I might just camp out at the DZ when I'm planning on getting more jumps in on the weekend. Thanks for the encouragement!

Airhead 0 #18 August 30, 2002 Hey diverdriver, Thanx Chris. I loved flying in little Cessnas before, didn't realize the last time I was in one that I'd be LOVING to JUMP OUT OF THEM, too! Yeah, I'll visualize, practice and relax and sure be sure to smile. My first jump was truly and epiphany for me. Totally awesome. This is gonna be THE ultimate...I can hardly wait.... Airhead 0 #19 August 30, 2002 HOOK Now, I know you're trying to encourage me, But I think the "Rolling over" bit was a little too much info for this COMPLETE NEWBIE! I have no history for the terminology or the meanings of a lot of the initials and phrases you-all use all the time. But hey, your heart's in the right place, dude, and I value your experience and wisdom. SMILE..Hey, really, I do!
Airhead 0 #20 August 30, 2002 jlmiracle, Thanx. Yeah, I'll try to keep my form right. Is it really different than tandem in the freefall??? I'm sure it will be a relief not to be strapped up with somebody else. But by nature I've always sought some sort of adventure and thrill. I do have a brave heart... BUT I am nervous about MY OWN CHUTE...and not knowing who is gonna be "watching my back" especially now that he/she is not gonna be ON IT!!! Bet tandem doesn't come near the rush of freefalling on your own!
