narcimund 0 #1 September 2, 2002 So this might be old news, but I just got introduced to a super cool jump this weekend: the Tube. We did it as a 6-way. Jumpers number 1 and 2 lie on their backs on the floor of the plane (a Caravan in this case) with their lower legs sticking out the door. Jumpers 3 and 4 straddle their legs, facing out. They reach down and grab the lying-down jumpers' legstraps. Lastly, jumpers 5 and 6 straddle the lying-down jumpers' heads. They grab the door-jumpers' legstraps. To complete the setup, the lying-down jumpers grab the legstraps of #5 and 6 and everyone locks adjacent arms with their partner. At this point you have two loops of three people each, held together by interlocked arms. Push out the door. It rolls! (This jump brought to you by April's Funway(tm).) airgord 1 #2 September 2, 2002 Those are a lot of fun, especially when they oscillate around and sometimes will go end over end. watch your pilotchutes the pockets need to be really tight, a premature in those can be deadly!!! If April put that together, tell her Gordo says hello.
billvon 3,120 #3 September 2, 2002 I thought you meant the fabric tube used by freeflyers . . . Saw something that made me feel really old this weekend. Square 1 was selling freefly tubes for $275 and according to Blue they were selling well. Seemed reasonable until I remembered that my first rig - used Swift container, very old Pursuit main and Phantom 26' round reserve - cost $250.
narcimund 0 #4 September 2, 2002 QuoteA premature in those can be deadly!!! That sounds grim. That didn't happen on ours, but I did suffer a gear casualty. After falling and rolling for god knows how many thousands of feet, everyone was anxious to get into clean air. In everyone's rush to scram, I got kicked in the face. My poor Oxygn A3 saved me a broken nose, but paid for it with a completely smashed faceshield. Good trade! Yup, I'll tell April you said hi if she doesn't read it here herself first. On RealTV the other day there was a guy who went out in a tube, had a premature, and got lines or risers around his arm. The canopy appeared to be inflated and he was spinning fast. He finally got it chopped around 1000 feet, and came under his reserve at 400 feet.

We've done an 8-way tube exit and got it to over 208mph the camera man was on his head trying to catch us. Am currently trying to organise a new Ozzie record of a 16-way tube exit...should be interesting! If we pull it off there's a keg promised! xj "I wouldn't recommend picking a fight with the earth...but then I wouldn't recommend picking a fight with a car either, and that's having tried both." Viking 0 #7 September 2, 2002 A bunch of the dz.com crew got in on a 12 way i think it was Tube. Pretty funny watching from the ground. First you see this black dot with one camera guy off to the side then like 5-10 secs later you see the thing just explode and people going flying.I swear you must have footprints on the back of your helmet - chicagoskydiver My God has a bigger dick than your god -George Carlin

First you see this black dot with one camera guy off to the side then like 5-10 secs later you see the thing just explode and people going flying. WOOOOHOOOOO!!!!! What a blast that was. I was part of that tube, and man it was AWESOME!! It was, of course, my initial tube jump, so I had not experienced anything like that before. It started out as being 12 people, but then the DZ manager said that having more than 8 people on the back of the tailgate of the skyvan for more than a few seconds would cause it to stall - so we did 9 instead...LOL The exit was good and it rolled and rolled until about 8K when it broke off. The load organizer communicated well what exactly was going to happen in the dive, breakoff alti, belly flying until breakoff, legs bent, etc... So when it broke off, we all went to our bellies until 5 grand, then tracked off. No incidents in that jump, due to good gear checks, and good communication, and of course - good people. I think I was the low man on this jump with only having 75 jumps. What a RAD weekend, and that was just one of the fun jumps we did. I hope someone has pictures they can post. Butthead: Whoa! Burritos for breakfast! Beavis: Yeah! Yeah! Cool! bellyflier on the dz.com hybrid record jump
Antithesis 0 #9 September 2, 2002 I love those tubes! I did a 12 way with the muffs @ WFFC that was recorded to be 240 mph.. It felt like it too! the scariest part of it was when it broke up it literally exploded people. I was catapulted upwards so hard that it felt like I had stopped falling for a second. Another fun one is a magic carpet ride:) I travel the land, Work in the ocean, Play in the sky
