nws01 0 #1 September 5, 2002 Bush has named September 11th Patriot Day. All flags are to be flown at half mast on this day in rememberence of those that lost their lives on Setember 11th last year. I am giving all of my employees the day off and I think it would be cool if other corporations followed.

nws01 0 #4 September 5, 2002 President Bush has requested that we all observe a moment of silence at exactly 8:46 a.m. Eastern Time, when the first plane struck the World Trade Center last September 11th. The Presidential Proclamation also authorizes the flying of all flags at half-staff for the day, now officially known as Patriot Day.
Sebazz1 2 #5 September 5, 2002 My firm will be giving out one hour free time to everyone to spend as they wish. As well several people have been prepering to bring food and other gifts to the fire station across the street in appreciation for their service to the community. I have noticed several of the attorney's giving up and sending their Giants baseball tickets recently to the station also. It will be a sad day... Spy38W 0 #6 September 5, 2002 Sounds good to me. I'll be spending my day at Skydive America, where they'll be donating money made from every jump ticket and tandem to the Red Cross. What could be better than riding a big, fast American flag to 14000' all day and giving your support to the Red Cross? QuoteI am giving all of my employees the day off... nws01 0 #7 September 5, 2002 Nope. I am working 7a-3pm at the desk and my assistant will do the 3p-11p. I will have my night auditor work his shift. Housekeeping will not have service that day and f&b which is limited in the hotel anyways will be closed.

Muenkel 0 #9 September 5, 2002 Maybe I work for a Nazi regime, but I have to take part in a telemarketing sales blitz on the 11th! And my market is the New York Metropolitan area!!!! When I voiced my objections to my "superiors" last week, I was told that it is not a national holiday and it is business as usual. Nathan, you've got the right idea. One question though, here in Massachusetts, we already have a Patriot's Day. Isn't this going to get confusing? _________________________________________ Chris
nws01 0 #10 September 5, 2002 I just can't imagine why your company would do a sales blitz in New York of all places on the 11th. That seems a little tacky to me. I would voice my opinion and maybe have a sick day which you are allowed.
wlie 0 #11 September 5, 2002 Go on strike dude. It's illegal for them to fire you if you're on strike, and if they do take 'em to court on grounds for preventing you in carrying out your freedom to express your patriotism. Hell! Just sue them because the sun rises in the east!My other ride is the relative wind.
Muenkel 0 #12 September 5, 2002 This is totally true. I am not kidding. In our sales meeting a couple of weeks ago this was announced. I of course raised my hand and expressed how it might seem a "bit insensitive" since our market was directly impacted by the events of 9/11. The other sales manages since have also expressed their views, but as it stands right now the assholes are standing firm. If this country can't just stop for one day to recollect on the worst attack on civillians in our history, then there is something seriously wrong. I am not talking about making every Sept. 11th a holiday. This is the first anniversary! Some of my customers died that day. Maybe now that President Bush made a proclamation, they might change their minds. I honestly believe if we go forward with a sales blitz it will be counterproductive and actually lose more business than we would gain. _________________________________________ Chris
TEB6363 0 #13 September 5, 2002 I'm going to take some time off and go to a tree planting at my son's school. Tree Fresno, a revitalization group, has donated trees to every school in the county for the day's events. Pretty cool. Once the plane takes off, you're gonna have to land - Might as well jump out!! Zach 0 #16 September 5, 2002 I'm sort of just playing the Devil's advocate here, but I'm curious: So do those of you that think it should be a day off think that it should become a national holiday, to be observed every year? If so why not a holiday for other "tragedies"? For instance November 22? Granted that was just one man and this was a few thousand, but does that mean their lives were more worthy of being remembered? Just a question, not looking to upset anyone. Zach 0 #18 September 5, 2002 Sorry man. Like I said just a question. If I never asked questions I'd walk through life ignorant. Didn't mean to come off like a schmuck. Sometimes it's enlightening to take a few steps against the flow. Have a good one.
Muenkel 0 #19 September 5, 2002 With all due respect to the mojo, I personally do not think Sept 11th should become a national holiday. However, I would like it to become a day off with pay.. Seriously, it is the 1st anniversary and anyone who has suffered the death of a loved one understands how important that day is in the mourning process. _________________________________________ Chris
Dumpster 0 #20 September 6, 2002 I would love it if our boss gave us the day off! However, since orders have come pounding in, (and big ones at that-) we have to keep production up - It's great being an American capitalist pig! However- I will do just as I had planned on that fateful day- I will be leaving work early to go jump! That was what my plans were until the bastards screwed it up for me and many, many others! Matter of fact, I think I will make it a point to jump on every September 11th frm now on!!! Easy Does It

Deuce 1 #24 September 6, 2002 Why is a disagreement "not tolerating dissent"? Is one person having an opinion with which another disagrees equal to intolerance? I'm sure this will be chopped up into little segments with others on the forum 'reading my mind' but seriously, if one person wants it to be a holiday, another asks why, and gets an answer, what's the point in trying to prove the person is an idiot for having that opinion? In what society is dissent tolerated more?
narcimund 0 #25 September 6, 2002 QuoteWhy is a disagreement "not tolerating dissent"? My comment followed an interaction that doesn't count as "disagreement". You'll notice, I hope, that Zach was instructed to keep his disagreements to himself for the purpose of not rocking the boat.
