Stealing

Recommended Posts

Ok, this is just fucked up...

Guy out at Perris was jumping a tube today...a $700 tube. He had to release it for some reason, and followed it down. He saw where it landed, and by the time he reached it in the car that came to pick him up, there was a car peeling away from the scene with the tube inside.

I don't think stealing is right in any case, but robbing banks, convenience stores, jewelers, etc., I can stretch my imagination and understand a little bit...the allure of being rich and not having to work for it, etc.

Why the hell would someone steal something just for the sake of stealing something when they don't even know what the hell it is??? What the hell would someone think they would be able to do with a big fabric gofast can??? They can't even know that it's worth as much as it is...

I just don't get it. This has been another sad commentary on humankind.

Admit it SBS... you love the feeling of having your d-bag bounce all the way up the side of the tube... the feeling of the one side of the canopy getting engulfed with nylon from the tube... the sudden turns caused by the tube wrapping lines... B|

At least I do.. sometimes....:S

I've been wondering this for a while;
What do you do with the tube when its time to deploy?
adam

There are a few videos that show tube deployments on my server...

/freefly/goverticalsep00.asf has a few
/freefly/monroe_tube(1-3).mpeg each have one.

It's pretty scary seeing the canopy just kinda rubbing up against the tube like that if ya ask me.

Man, that really sucks big time. Who does that shit anyway? Are these our fellow skydivers? Just hard to believe. Pranks and jokes, ok, we live for this stuff but taking gear is like a capital offence. It is against all principles - disgustingB|

If there is a college campus nearby, then the tube is probably decorating a dorm room. OR some loser's basement apartment! The guy may not even know what he has.

But, it seems like people who live near a dz have some idea about the value of misc. gear that comes floating down from the sky!

I know we had one "Farmer McNasty" near our dz who held on to a friends cutaway main for a YEAR. The day of the cutaway, he smiled and let my friends onto his property to look for it (and it was probably ALREADY tucked away in his barn!) I don't know if he was feeling guilty or what, but he showed up at the dz a year later and tried to ransom it back. Luckily for my friend, he had chopped a bag lock and the canopy was still good, since it had spent all that time in a barn, still packed!

Yes, I hope it was someone from the DZ vicinity and not a skydiver. That would be reason to tar and feather. This stuf is not only expensive. We personalize it. These are our little good luck pieces. Plus you feel so violated. I had about 60 CDs stolen from my car once. Never mind the side window they broke, though that was a royal hassle. If I caught them I would shred them! But the point is you don't know who did it and so you are helpless...ARGHHHHHB|

Yup. I was foolish enough to leave a bag with every piece of skydiving equipment I owned at the time (jumpsuit, logbook with licenses and ratings and the pics from my topless dive, helmet, altimeter, goggles... the only thing I didn't have was a rig) in my car, parked in my carport with the window down. Sure enough, some &%$&ing a$$hole stole it.

Lucky for me the logbook, licenses, ratings and jumpsuit were all found in a dumpster 20 blocks away (another jumper happened to live nearby and found my D license blowing down the alley, called me and I dug through the dumpster looking for whatever might be left...). If I could've found the jerk(s) who took the stuff, I'd have killed 'em - or at least left them bleeding on the sidewalk. Normally I don't advocate violence, but in this case...

For Sale: 1 really cool tube. Says "go fast" on it and is slightly dirty. Looks like a big penis in the sky (it really does)$700 obo....

Steve,
seriously, with the dragworms that live in and around Perris are you seriously suprised? I told Scott I would sell it back to him cheap after I traded it for crack.

I hate people who steal. Who the %&#/#"(!&% is stupid enough to steal skydiving equipment they don't even know whats for. Stolen gear is also nearly impossible to sell unless you go to the other side of the globe, because the skydiving community isn't bigger than that everyone will hear about stolen gear.
I heard about a skydiver being caught stealing some years ago at a dropzone here in Norway. He got banned from all dropzones in the country...bye bye we don't want you!
There is one theft of skydiving equipment I heard of that I can somewhat understand. I don't support it though!!! A skydiver with about 40 jumps got his rigg and baserigg stolen. He had made a bunch of really stupid dangerous base jumps and people generally were amazed he was still alive. Guess someone stole his gear in hope of preventing him from killing himself. I only got this story second hand, so the details can be wrong(and maybe not true at all). Anyway, stealing will never be OK.

Some people will steal anything.

A couple of years ago a guy stole an anattended suite case from Reading station.
He was quite surprised when he got it home and opened it up.

It was a bomb left by the IRA who were targeting railway stations at the time.

Had the same thing happen once with a free bag and PC. Went down the street looking for it and this lady sitting on her porch says " Oh I saw a car stop and this kid got out and picked it up." It was never seen again even though Tony has a "Reward" policy with the people that live near Raeford.
