riddler 0 #1 September 10, 2002 Just want to say that dropzone is a great site. The effort that is put into the site by the owners, moderators, and fellow skydivers reflects their enthusiasm to our sport. I find myself constantly looking at everyone's profile, and I would love to know wingloadings, but can't seem to find it. If it's not already in there somewhere, and if I'm not rehashing a previous suggestion, how 'bout adding it to the "skydiving profile" as an optional field? The downside is, of course, that with main canopy size, estimating 25 pounds for gear, someone would know how much you weigh. Not a problem for me, but some people might choose to not include that.Trapped on the surface of a sphere. XKCD

Jimbo 0 #3 September 10, 2002 Why does everyone want the profile to include a complete bio? It seems people aren't happy if a given user doesn't include his exact number of jumps, canopy choice, reserve choice, wingloading on both canopies, age, what he had for breakfast, etc... If you want to know anything about someone else in the dz.com community then just ask. Those who care to share will, those who don't won't. For whatever it's worth, mine is about 1.4 to one. - Jim"Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed.

What he said..If you want to know something about someone PM them.. They'd probably love to talk to you about whatever.. Besides.. as far as wing loadings and everything in this sport go, stats aren't as important as your personal experience level.. Your skills and what the people who observe you think at your home dz. Ask your dzo what he thinks.. or ask your coach or friends that you jump with. Ask your self are you comfortable, accurate, safe, ..could you manage an off dz landing under any circumstance. Think about these things ..not what other people are loading their canopies friend. I travel the land, Work in the ocean, Play in the sky

What _did_ you have for breakfast, anyway? After all, if you had one of those McDonald's breakfast deals, your canopy loading probably just went up a few tenths . . . ECVZZ 0 #15 September 10, 2002 This is an interesting question, since I was thinking today while reading "fatalities" in Parachutist that it'd be interesting if wingloading was listed in the stats. I wingload at 1:1 to 1:1.18, depending on what I'm jumping on a given day. G. Jones "I've never been quarantined. But the more I look around, the more I think it might not be a bad idea." freeflir29 0 #16 September 10, 2002 I'm in the 1.25:1 range on a Stilletto 170. It was 1.3 when I bought it but I'm about 17Lbs lighter now... Unlike Kris I can't say I luuuuve my Stilletto. I wish I could lose more altitude in a hook. It's OK but I'm looking forward to the day I can downsize. (Money?????)

Jimbo 0 #20 September 10, 2002 Quote I think we are missing the point here folks... I agree why not add a spot for wingloading in the BIO if ya don't wanna ya don't gotta... I'm a bit of a freak when it comes to privacy and a firm believer that sometimes we need to protect people from themselves. Some people, when filling out the profile, might think that the wingloading field is required or they might not think and just blindly fill in the blank. In the long run this doesn't mean much, but it could (and around here most likely would) end up with lots of criticism from other jumpers who look up a profile and feel that JoeJumper is being too aggressive. That just starts unnecessary, and mostly unfounded since 99% of the people arguing will have never seen JoeJumper actually jump, arguments. If you want to know JoeJumper's wingloading then just ask. If you're afraid to ask then it probably isn't that important anyway. Why does everything need to be handed to people on a silver platter? Are we afraid of basic human interaction even when it occurs over the wire? - Jim"Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed. nws01 0 #23 September 10, 2002 1.5-1.6. Depending on how much I drink and eat. This was my first canopy off student status and I would not recommend this wing loading for a first canopy. freeflir29 0 #24 September 10, 2002 Quote could someone fill me in please Just divide your weight (At exit gear included 25 lbs or so) into the square footage of your canopy. I.E. I weigh about 212 out the door with Jumpsuit, camera, rig, alti. I jump a Stilletto 170 so that gives me a wingloading of 1.25:1 (Actually 1.247:1 on the calculator)
Magistr8 0 #25 September 10, 2002 thank you Free I guess then that the big hype is to load the canopy to around 1.5 or higher and pray to hell that the thing holds till you get to the ground?
