SBS 0 #1 September 9, 2002 Just out of curiosity, want to get opinions... We see jokes about different things, ranging anywhere from racial, to sexual, to religious, etc. Is there really such thing as a completely politically correct joke? (that's funny) -S_____________ I'm not conceited...I'm just realistic about my awesomeness...
SatchFan 0 #2 September 9, 2002 Probably not. That's what makes a joke funny I guess. You're making fun of something/somebody.
wmw999 2,565 #3 September 9, 2002 At the moment, I'd have to say that depends on whether you're Lorena Bobbitt or not...There is nothing more dangerous than breaking a basic safety rule and getting away with it. It removes fear of the consequences and builds false confidence. (tbrown)
PhreeZone 20 #4 September 9, 2002 Humor is almost aways built around pain, usually someone elses pain or suffering but I'm at a loss to thing of a joke that does not poke fun at a group or person.Yesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com
Jessica 0 #5 September 9, 2002 The joke that makes me laugh my ass off every time is the impatient chicken joke. I don't think anyone could be offended by it. Anyone human, anyway. Perhaps I just have a simple mind.Skydiving is for cool people only

FliegendeWolf 0 #7 September 9, 2002 Phree, Have you read Stranger in a Strange Land? It's interesting because the turning point for the main character (a human who was raised by martians, and then brought back to Earth), when he really becomes human, is when he discovers why things are funny, which is basically what you said, too.A One that Isn't Cold is Scarcely a One at All
happythoughts 0 #8 September 9, 2002 I read a book on humor by Isaac Asimov. He did an analysis on why things are funny. He also suggested that there are other reasons. One reason is surprise, that little twist at the end. Example - many lightbulb jokes. How many psychiatrists does it take to change a lightbulb ? Only one, but it has to want to change. SBS 0 #9 September 9, 2002 I think someone said it well in another thread...to not offend anyone is to keep your mouth shut, and that's communistic. At the same time, though, looking at an example like Stranger in a Strange Land (great example, by the way), Heinlein tries to demonstrate human perversion (not the sexual kind) and the corruption of innocence. Same thing with Pleasantville...I saw a commercial for it the other day and thought about how it was so wonderful that they introduced color into this black and white world...I wonder if it really made anything better... Point is, sometimes I would rather live in a black and white world than have too much color. -S_____________ I'm not conceited...I'm just realistic about my awesomeness...
