diverdriver 7 #26 September 9, 2002 Ok....after some sleep I see I totally left out the Award Ceremony! Man....it was way cool. Roger did a good job introducing the teams even if he kept giving the total points for the team as "their average score was 144!" Baahahhahah....it was funny in the moment. But what was really cool was the video presentation before each of the winners in Open class! Palika and a few others feverishly edited these short clips highlighting each team before their introduction. It wasn't an Award Ceremony....it was an Award PRESENTATION. Even people who had been to many more Nationals than I (2) said that it was really impressive. And then at the end, the Golden Knights Gold team stepped off to the side of the high podium and Roger talked about where we all had to start. At the bottom. It's the heart of competition that counts. Roger called up team Unexpected which had a snow balls chance in Hell of finishing anywhere but the bottom. But they did 10 rounds. Didn't quit. Didn't get frustrated. Kept smiling through the whole thing. If there was a God Frog award for 4-way they would have gotten it I think. But....Roger got them up on the stage before everyone. This may sound like just a chance to bash the last place team in Intermediate but the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place teams in OPEN presented a little something to the team of Unexpected in appreciation of their effort. This was WAY cool. Ok...I think I'm done babbling for awhile. Chris Oh yah......go to OMNISKORE! for all the latest results, team photos and of course the beloved "Tidbits". They've got the pulse of the Nationals. I'm just a squirl trying to get a nut in their world.
Jumperpaula 0 #27 September 9, 2002 Quote4-ways done and 8-way starts tomorrow.... Wow, some shocking, some not so shocking. That Juggernaut stole the show in 4wayI, not surprising. Go Texas, Go Dallas!! Our Spaceland homeboys, Jumpstart tied for 12th - WE LOVE YALL! Otterlimits in 16th? After taking 3rd last year? Big upset for us (more so for them, Im sure). Someone give em a hug for us. Looks like our 8 way Homeboys, Deguello, are getting off to a slow start in 8 way open after two rounds. Remember the Alamo!! I can tell, Im not gonna get much work done this week.....
ltdiver 3 #28 September 10, 2002 Don't forget your Dallas team, "Ramming Speed"!After only one year of training (without much, if any coaching) they took a solid 7th (out of 40 Intermediate 4-way teams) yesterday! Averaging 9.9 over 10 rounds... This was 3 of the 4 members first Nationals. One had even started the year with only ~200 jumps! Go Ramming Speed! Love ya guys! ltdiver Don't tell me the sky's the limit when there are footprints on the moon
Jumperpaula 0 #29 September 10, 2002 I was really pulling for Arizona Vegence for third in 8 way open. I thought they might take Deland after a few rounds. They are our Arizona boys from Texas. Love you guys! Deguello, gotta respect them. Practice hard, no sponsors - very serious about what they do. Ok guys, Nationals are over...lets Play!! Wait....there's still 16 way... ltdiver 3 #30 September 10, 2002 Yeah, AZ Vengence was my choice as well. Looked they'd do it last night when the 7th round was completed! Boy, can those men fly! :^) Was able to sit with several of the team's wives and mix it from the other side during the event. Their kids were into it too!Much more to tell, but there is a line forming behind us at the computers here so I better sign off. Style and Accuracy tomorrow! Cheryl Sterns is here.... ltdiver Don't tell me the sky's the limit when there are footprints on the moon
BikerBabe 0 #31 September 10, 2002 Well, all I have to say is that my first nationals was an absolute kick in the pants! I had a singular disappointment that had nothing to do with the jumping and everything to do with the lack of morals of some skydivers, but otherwise I was ecstatic. I even made my 500th jump while I was there. I went on a lark, with a throw-together team, and we didn't quite finish last...but the most important thing was that we had a blast. I'm sure I probably met or talked to some of you, but I didn't even think about my screenname, I was so busy talking to old and new friends. I was seriously rooting for Vengeance as well, since our coach and one team member's significant other are on the team...they worked really hard and it certainly showed! The award ceremony was amazing, and I found one of the members of Unexpected afterward. The Open teams gave them limited edition 24-carat gold coins... Congrats to the Knights, Nemesis, Airspeed 8, and Air Force Blue...you guys rock. I am seriously impressed with the Air Force cadet teams this year, and the intermediate class (maybe even Advanced) had better look out for the boys and girl on Air Force Silver next year! I know the cadet 4-way teams when I was there were nowhere near these guys' level. Woohoo! I can't wait till next year!Never meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup!
