Dude - IT CAN BE DONE BY YOU!!!! A pack a day for a year=New Rig - Stick the four bucks in a jar every day and buy yourself a new rig next summer! I quit three years ago lasy May, and the first 7 days were the worst, but after it's all out of your system YOU WILL FEEL GREAT! It's the best thing in the world!!! I can even drink beers without getting the urge to light up- The longer you run the easier it gets! Trust me on that!

Geez, would you look at this thread? You were looking for support and you found it bud!:)
Seriously though, I am one month short of a smoke free year!!!!... (well, let's say cigarette-free year;)) I had been smoking since grade 6 (I'm 23 now). After a few weeks, you'll be caughing up the lung-butter... I know this is gross but dude, just appreciate that your body is getting a chance to finally clean all that shit out! Oh yeah, fish for the complements man! Dont' be ashamed to blurt out in front of friends:"Guys it's been a week without smoking!"... "Guys, it's been a month without smoking!"... fish for the "Way to go buddy that's great!" responses cause they help... If you're at the bar, have been drinking and feel that need for a smoke, figure out how long it's been and tell your buddy... listen carefully to the responses of smokers... almost all of them will say congrats and that they wish they could quit too. This was my secret source of extra will power ;)

Anyway, just a trick of the trade. Good luck man and "Wow that's great! keep it up!"

QUIT NOW.... NOT FRIDAY... TRUST ME!!!!

Quote

My quitting day is this coming Friday & I'm really hoping I'll be able to do it ....

Hey this is another problem when trying to quit. Lot's of people say:"When this pack is finished, I quit! I'm not buying another pack!" or "I'm going to quit smoking, starting THIS FRIDAY" Setting a future date to stop smoking handicaps your will-power in a way you may not be aware of. Let me explain.

If you say:"I'm quiting when this pack is done", then you have made a solid, conscient decision to quit... but you still have half a pack to finish so you keep smoking... sub-conciously, you've already lost a part of the battle by disobeying yourself... get it? Anybody will tell you that will-power is the most important part of quitting. Now that you've decided to quit on Friday, your brain and body are aware of this... I know it sounds funny but throw away the cigaretts you have left RIGHT NOW and youre chances of success will increase dramaticaly I promise.

It is better to quit with cigarettes left than without... when I decided I was going to quit I said "when this pack is finished" then I lit a smoke and thought about it.... I put it out, left my pack on the bar at my place, told my friends to finish them and went to bed... That's when I quit and it was the best move I could have made. Jut my $0.02CND... What's an extra two days anyway eh?

P.S. "That's excellent! Keep it up? Congrats!!!";)

Very true. I used to do this all the time. I'd decide to quit when the pack I had was finished, then when it was, I'd go buy another pack. I recall thinking to myself that all I needed to do was wait until I got the desire to quit when I was finished with a pack. It didn't take me long to realize that that would never happen!!

I totally agree about quitting where you are - don't wait to finish the pack or carton. And don't use the word "hope" as in "I'm hoping I can do this". That is another handicap to actually quitting and gives you an out when it gets a little rough. You have to make the decision and just remember that your willpower is strong enough to carry through. I quit after 23 years and it was the best decision I ever made. I left a full pack on the endtable when I made the decision.

I intend to live forever -- so far, so good.

All I gotta say is "talk to your doctor", they can help. Don't try to do it alone, you've done that how many times before? Try something different this time, GET HELP.

I'm a BIG fan of Zyban. It's an antidepressant also known as Welbutrin-SR, and it doesnt help with the psysiological (chemical) addition, but a big part of smoking is psychological, and it COMPLETELY takes that away.

I originally went three weeks without one until Labor Day weekend. I have slipped a couple of times since. It only happens when I am at the DZ or with other people smoking around me. During the week days I cycle and stay to myself so it just is not an issue or problem... Dunno what to say except I have not quit yet. I am trying though. Just keep trying. And liek someone mentioned above. If you do slip it does not meen you have to start up again.

They do not call it one of the hardest addictions for nothing. Some times it's not the nicotine but oral thing. Eat carrots. The little baby carrots help me a lot...

Nobody has kicked my ass either.. I am on my own..
