PhillyKev 0 #27 September 18, 2002 I'm confused as to why this is bad to do. Doesn't it help keep your handles in place? I mean, the last thing I want it my reserve handle coming loose under canopy. Seems like a smart thing to do.
happythoughts 0 #28 September 18, 2002 If you keep making sense, you may have to be sent to the re-education center. Excellent idea.

Zenister 0 #30 September 18, 2002 I dont know i'm pretty skinny thats perfect holds the straps together and would keep the reserve from opening even if some foolish security type picked the rig up by the handle... ok now what am i going to do with all theses 3 1/2 foot red streamers...hmmmmm____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed. JDBoston 0 #33 September 18, 2002 It works even better if you just get a rigger to sew your top flap to the closing loop itself. Much more secure that way. Joe
PhreeZone 20 #34 September 18, 2002 I'm personally a big fan of sewing my freebag in place before I close the container. It takes me days to get it shaped jsut right and the last thing I want it doing is shifting as I close the container. After using the sewing machine on it a few time I've founf the reserve is much more comfortable in the container. It does involve getting a seam ripper tool to repack every 2 years, but thats a small price to pay for the comfort of a well packed back rest.Yesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com
lummy 4 #35 September 18, 2002 That's a really good idea Paul, it makes a lot more sense than just tying a pull up cord around the reserve. thanks for sharing, I for one will startign doing it this way instead OMG.. this thread is just startign to REEK (sp?) of nippleboyI promise not to TP Davis under canopy.. I promise not to TP Davis under canopy.. eat sushi, get smoochieTTK#

dida 0 #37 September 18, 2002 another idea i had that i'm dying to try is just to shrink wrap the bag once i FINALLY get the canopy in it. that baby's not going anywhere!!! then, instead of doing line stows (obviously, the grommets and bands are shrink wrapped in there), just keep twisting the bag around and around until the lines all kink up and sit in the bottom of the container. this way, you can be certain they won't get tangled up. also prevents line dump. heh...heh... i said "dump"...heh...heh... spiral out...keep going... PhreeZone 20 #38 September 18, 2002 Remi.... Why do you think I just bought a new sewing machine? I don't need that reserve anyways. I pack extremely well and have never had an issue that i have'nt cleared before my feet hit the ground. Except the one time I could'nt get the slider to quit making noise so I too my hook knife to it to clear the mal.Yesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com
seedy 0 #39 September 18, 2002 OK, being new to the sport, I am confused. Which is better, shrink wrapping or sewing? Does color of thread make a difference? I intend to live forever -- so far, so good.
quade 4 #40 September 18, 2002 QuoteI'm personally a big fan of sewing my freebag in place before I close the container. Not such a funny joke when you consider that something very similar has actually happened and ended up killing a fairly famous jumper.quade - The World's Most Boring Skydiver
PhreeZone 20 #41 September 18, 2002 >Does color of thread make a difference? YES. Color of thread makes ALL the difference. You only see white thread on canopies for a reason. White is attracted to the clouds, ever notice how your canopy goes up towards the clouds when you open? You won't be needing the reserve so a dark color, black or brown will work well for sewing up the freebag. Also spray painting of the freebag will help, if no paint is around a nice gallon of paint poured in the reserve container then drained out will work in a pinch. In terms of shrinkwraping, I use shrink wrap and a heat gun to make sure that all the air is squeezed out every time. The heat gun can get very hot, hot enough to melt fabric, so avoid leaving your beer around it unless you want room temperature beer in about 15 seconds.Yesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com
PhreeZone 20 #42 September 18, 2002 Patrick? Yeah I know all about that one and how to avoid it. It was a weird sitution to sew there anyways.Yesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com
