wildblue 7 #4 September 23, 2002 Quote And sometimes a little "religion" I hear. I'm starting a new religion. I'm calling it Spotology. I'll get some celebrities into it, then charge people an assload of money to become educated in the enlightening ways of Spotology. The more money you give me, the higher level (or 'altitude') you can get to. I might even write a few books about it, to make even more money from it all....it's like incest - you're substituting convenience for quality

P.S. -- I think people were getting a little hypoxic on jump 6 when we were circling around and around and around @ 15 grand.

He said that everyone visiting there and experiencing SDC for the first time were all now part of his "cult". LOL......bahhahahahaha. I thought that was hilarious. Then he made a comment later in the week about all the competitors getting the sweatshirts (instead of t-shirts). That they were all now wearing his "Team shirt"....bahahhahaha.....some people got it.....some people had to have it explained to them. Chris
weid14 0 #11 September 23, 2002 what about the "I learned from my experimentation in the 70's..." comment, that one really cracked me up. I bet there could have been a successful big way there this year if he was so inclined

I'm feeling kinda buzzed I wasn't complaining...my side of the formation was complete....but the other side looked like they were feeling the effects. diverdriver 6 #16 September 23, 2002 Quote "It's just physics" AND "Embrace Technology" Steve Yes, the technology is wonderful these days. But I'd say my spotting technique is much of what spotters of old did by looking out the door. I just have a more precise position report with ground speed and drift. Here's where the "art" comes in: I have to know what each group is doing and how the winds will effect them. Then I have to run a line (or curve) that will give everyone the proper seperation and still keep them in a position to land "in". With the bigways (mult-aircraft formations) I have to think about climbout speed and exit timing so that they go off the plane where I want them to. I hear pilots always ask "How far did you give them the green light?" Who cares. It's all about ground speed and climb out speed. Then I have to think about the exit altitude and drift time. Then there is the topography. I certainly don't want anyone landing east of the river. That would be "bad". And it certainly would deflate my ego. But about "technology": I've had visiting pilots ask what kind of jump run I was doing and when I started describing it they looked like a dog that had its' favorite toy fake thrown and then hidden behind the back. [Huh?] Ahh well. So I'll just throw in some "mystisism" and say: Ahhh, I can see the air molecules moving. Can't you? (kind of like the baseball hitters who say they can see the spin of the threads on the ball so well they know where it's going.) Ohhhhmmmmmm......ohhhhmmmmmmm Chris
swarley 0 #17 September 23, 2002 Chris, Thanks for the detail. "Technology" will get you a starting point, but experience and a feel for the the total drop is what makes a good driver. Imagine being a diver helps. Steve

It's the lead aircraft (one on the right) in the second link. And that would be the airport directly below (another good spot) in the third link.
