CarrieFisher 0 #26 September 23, 2002 ain't a troll. too many people keep glossing over dumbass phuckups with lame excuses. If you see somebody doing something that might very likely get the guy killed, are you just gonna say 'it's a troll' or phucking speak up & try to prevent someone from killing thierself? skybytch 273 #27 September 23, 2002 Here's a question. Why are CarrieFisher and several other "anonymous" accounts, each of whom has posted no more than 3 times, each of whom are posting what appear to be trolls or outright slashes at people, all posting through Earthlink? I really expected those IP addresses to come back to AOL, all things considered. Things that make me say hmmm....

Perhaps, but anonymous posting is a sure-fire way to: A) remove any trace of credibility from your post B) not be taken seriously by other users any others people want to add?A One that Isn't Cold is Scarcely a One at All
quade 4 #32 September 23, 2002 QuoteDoes it matter? Is it so important to put a real name to a screen name? Does not doing so make the point any less valid? Well, in a word, yes. It speaks to credibility. If Bill Booth comes on this or any other forum and tells me there is an issue with a Relative Workshop rig, then I'll take that as credible without further question. If a person posts anonymously and makes accusations about other people's right to say certain things or how things should be said, then I'm pretty much going to ignore him completely other than in watching out for that person from a Moderator's point of view. Anonymous posters have NO credibility in my book and for the most part I see them as cowards that either have a personal vendetta or simply want to create controversy without recriminations to themselves.quade - The World's Most Boring Skydiver

How is saying someone was a candidate for Darwin award going to prevent accidents or death? It's your right to honestly express your opinion, but saying someone got what he/she deserved doesn't teach anyone anything valuable about preventing it in the future. PhillyKev 0 #39 September 23, 2002 I think the point of the letters wasn't that the cause of the death and mistakes made shouldn't be discussed, but what usefull purpose does it serve to post a quote from someone calling a recently deceased person, "a dumbass". Especially when there's a pretty good chance that a fair amount of that persons friends will probably read it. I think an objective account of what caused the accident including details of the specific mistakes made by the person is fine and beneficial. But who does it help to print that kind of comment? "Hey Joe, did you hear that they called Frank a dumbass because he killed himself hooking it in? I heard about why he died and was going to keep hooking anyway, until I heard that they call you a dumbass if you kill yourself that way." Does that sound like a reasonable line of thought? Personally, I don't have a problem with peoples choice of language or expression of opinions. But how about a little tact when dealing with a recently departed member of our community. Luminous 0 #41 September 23, 2002 I'm gonna have to agree w/ Jimbo on this one. Some people are more comfortable remaining anonymous, be it that they're shy, or asking a question that would immediatly identify them, and the subject of their post, should their name be known. So be it. Regardless of the subject, a true Troll's purpose is to raise the ire of others on the forum. Any, and I mean ANY, response to said message only feeds said troll. So if you think it's a troll, it's much easier and faster to simply click to the next thread. Remember, he/she just wants a response, regardless of the type of response. No responses = Dead Troll. I've noticed, in by brief time here and of course recdot for quite a while, that there are certain people that simply can't wait to blast what they consider a trollish post. In the case of a true troll, your doing exactly what the poster desires. In the case of a valid post by a timid individual, who at this time is probably new to the forum and making a 'test' post, your just driving em away. "Jessica, how did you break your leg?" "Ummmmm Tonya Harding." Seriously, if I know I'm going to get berated that badly, I'm not going to share with the class, and that could keep someone else from learning from my error. Luminous 0 #47 September 23, 2002 True. I didn't say it wasn't a troll. I just find it funny that the people who whine and complain about 'no name' post are just encouraging the person to continue. oh, and I disagree with the text of the original post. If I think someones fuckin up, I tell em. Sometimes I'm less than tactfull about it. (workin on that). While I still feel sympathy toward someone laying in a hospital bed all broken up because they decided to hook it in to impress the girlfriend, that doesn't change the fact that they did indeed fuck up. And the majority of the time, that person knows it. oh well, I rant and rave. Have a GREAT evening/morning/day (depending on your time zone).'In an insane society a sane person seems insane.' So be it. Nope. Sorry. I'm not buying it. If you say something in a public forum, you should -have- to be accountable for what you say. Otherwise the rules of civility go out the door and slander becomes an acceptable form of expression. Pretty much the only way a person can be accountable for their actions is if you know who they actually are -- otherwise they'll just run away, create a "new" identity and do it again. If somebody is too shy to post under their their real identity, then I'm sorry, but I can give no credibility to that person no matter what point they're trying to make.quade - The World's Most Boring Skydiver
