kingmonkeeking 0 #1 September 23, 2002 Hey what happened to the skykat website. I know Tony did the nationals thing this year did it just fall by the wayside. Stationed over-seas it's kind of a reference for me on gear prices and the only place I'll shop from online. I miss it.

PhreeZone 20 #3 September 23, 2002 The sites working fine for me and its even updated since the last time I was there.. www.skykat.com http://www.skykat.com/Catalog/enter.htmlYesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com
WFFC 1 #4 September 23, 2002 It works fine. Now the brief technical explaination - Your ISP may not be resolving the name (skykat.com) to the correct computer (skykat.com's ISP) on the network.----- ~~~Michael
kingmonkeeking 0 #5 September 23, 2002 Dag I'm in Turkey right now does that make a difference. I used to be able to access their page but it ain't worked in a month.Quote
 WFFC 1 #6 September 23, 2002 QuoteDag I'm in Turkey right now does that make a difference. I used to be able to access their page but it ain't worked in a month. Country doesn't really matter. DNS=Domain Name Service. Primarily what it does is resolves that http://63.119.175.56 is equal to http://www.skykat.com. The ISP you are forced to use over there, or the ISP they work up through may not resolve the name so it would give you an error that the page is unreachable. I was having coctails with all of them yesterday evening. Chuck
 kingmonkeeking 0 #9 September 24, 2002 oh well tried the numerical equivalent that didn't work either. Thanks for your help folks. I'll give it a shot through a non Turk Telecom ISP and see if it works. That would work on a very simple setup: one server, one website. But since Skykat has bought server space from some ISP, the same IP-address can host several websites(with several different domain names). The details on how this is done I'm not familiar with. For example: Both www.hameenlaskuvarjourheilijat.fi (my home DZ) and www.fashionteam.fi (some fashion stuff) Come back as 212.83.122.5 Trying to go there it tells you it's a "temporary server page." A reverse lookup reveals the real name for that IP: zapp.euonnet.com So how do I get to my home DZ's pages or the whatever fashion pages when I know the IP of the server and the name that should take me to the pages(but doesn't if the DNS is screwed)? Anyone interested in giving a brief lecture in the mysteries of IP networking?
