skycat 0 #7 September 22, 2002 0:0:1 No jumping this weekend for me cause I climbed my 1st 14er. Grays Peak....trail is only about 3 miles long but it is pretty much strait up over 3000ft. Elevation 14,270' Yep that is right for all of you jumping yesterday I would have been looking down on your plane. We were going to do Torreys peak at the same time which is right next to it across the saddle, but once at the top of Grays we know Fox and several of the other people we were with wouldn't make it plus it was windy as hell up there. So we hiked on down with a mountain goat looking at us like we lost our minds being up that high. So no jumping for me since I'm covering for someone at work today.Fly it like you stole it! jfields 0 #13 September 22, 2002 I finally have a decent set of weekend numbers to report. 19 : 2 The two firsts were one serious, one funny. The serious first was my first time having really poor planning on my landing pattern. I was doing a usual 3-leg left-hand pattern, but I set up from a really bad position. I took my downwind leg too long with the dz on my left, and too far to my left. Ordinarily that isn't soo much of a problem, but I was in an area where there are absolutely no outs. Nothing but trees. I turned, made a short base leg over trees, and my final took me over a small place I'd aimed for where the treeline recedes about 50 feet. Even with the extra 50 feet, my toes damn near skimmed the treetops and I landed where the treeline is for the rest of that side. It is also an area notorious for rotors off the treeline. Way too close to a tree landing, but it ended okay. Lesson learned. Don't take the pattern with no outs! The funny one was my first unplanned low exit. I was the only fun jumper on a load full of tandems. We hit a cloud layer at 3500 feet and the pilot asked if I wanted out. I was sitting all the way in the front of the plane because I'd been planning to deploy at 7000 feet. I figured it would be too much hassle, and said no, and he started heading back down. At 3000 feet, the three video guys said they wanted out, so they opened the door and checked the spot. Out they went. So, what the hell? I basically hurried from the front of the plane past all the tandems and dove out the door. I deployed after about 5 seconds and made it back to a nice landing on the airport. Sweet! flyhi 24 #15 September 22, 2002 2000: 7: 1 2000 = lowest altitude deployed. Never ever think you can get one more point in when you know you should break. And never trust a Golden Knight, current or former. 1 = First trip to Dave and Buster's.Shit happens. And it usually happens because of physics. Scoby 0 #21 September 22, 2002 3:3:1 I had a really nice day at the dropzone. There was an 8-way competition and I saw a few faces I hadn't seen in a while. My first was a hop-n-pop from full altitude. I got out first and got to see my friend exit, and then the tandems leave. It was an interesting perspective. We were up in the air for 15 minutes or so. The only thing I'd do differently is wear some gloves, it was cold up there!
AndyMan 7 #22 September 22, 2002 0:7:0 My second weekend of jumping since Rantoul. I spent all weekend on the good side of the force, doing larger sequential RW jumps. The smallest I did was a 10 way, the biggest 16. The jumps on Saturday were awesome, the fewest points we got was 4, which I think is pretty cool for a group that was put togeather ad-hoc. The jumps on sunday generally sucked ASS, we attributed that to all being hungover from the usual Hinckley bonfire. I ended up packing it in on Sunday because of high winds, anyways. Almost got a number in the first column, but we won't go into that... _Am__ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.

Jessica 0 #25 September 23, 2002 0:2:0 Drove to the dropzone on Saturday morning and managed to make 2 jumps -- a hop n pop and funneled 9-way -- before I had to leave for a craptacular night at work. Drove to the dropzone on Sunday morning in time to hear about the awesome party I'd missed the night before, and sat around for hours watching the 35 mph gusts whip the wind blades around. Left there for work at about 1 p.m. I'm getting mighty sick of this shit. I'm going to quit my job and work at PetsMart.Skydiving is for cool people only
