bluefingers 0 #9 September 26, 2002 not feeling very much like spring at the moment, but I shouldn't moan .... I am sure it's MUCH better over here ok, biltong? sheesh, how do I describe it, basically huge slabs of meat, preferrably venison (kudu, impala, hell I've even had ostrich, beef will do as well) , that have been salted and spiced, and dried out, very addictive! Boerewors roll - huge fat juicy spicy sausage Oh, what's that? Basically a roti (round pancake thingy) filled with curry - but Johnnies is in a very dodge part of town .... ernokaikkonen 0 #10 September 26, 2002 >I'll throw in a haggis, and a couple of bottles of fine malt whisky.. I just have to try some of that sometime. What was it, sheep's stomach filled with stuff? Sounds so gross it has to be delicious Hmm. 'Gross' reminded of a a finnish specialty, served during easter, called "mämmi". Quote The oldest and no doubt the most unusual traditional Finnish dish is mämmi, a dark brown porridge made of water and sweetened rye malt. It is baked in a slow oven in cardboard boxes made to look like birchbark baskets. Nowadays mämmiis a dessert served with cream and sugar, but originally it used to be a Lenten provision, eaten cold as such or spread on top of a slice of bread. And I won't mind a shot of two of that whisky either... Erno
Phil 0 #11 September 26, 2002 uuuhhh, can you smoke that stuff? looks like something that got squeezed out of a bar of cannabis I guess with all the nice and healthy food, the whisky will be a must just to stay upright. So, a dodge part of town? Is it like you drive in with your car and walk out with nothing but your underwear? Or just a place to party from sunset to sunrise? ... .. .how high can you fly with broken wings ... life's a journey not a destination
bluefingers 0 #12 September 26, 2002 QuoteSo, a dodge part of town? Is it like you drive in with your car and walk out with nothing but your underwear? Or just a place to party from sunset to sunrise? Haven't been there in years ... but basically, after partying till sunrise, you get serious munchies, and back in the day, it was one of the few places open at that hour ... you screech in, leave someone behind the wheel, engine idling, someone else stands guard while you collect your order, then you all leap back into the car, and screech out of there, hoping like hell that none of the locals saw you ... Thank goodness for Bimbo's ... now I can satisfy my munchies attack in relative safety Kerry
