My boyfriend and I own a small business with one employee. Our employee is coming up on his 6 month anniversary and we've been very happy with his work. He's seemed to need some cheering up lately, and he's been talking about wanting to make a first jump for at least as long as we've known him...

... so today when we both realized it was too nice a day to spend it all in the office, we headed out for some afternoon jumps. But instead of leaving Drew behind to handle the phones like we usually do, we invited him to the DZ for a tandem and video "on the business."

I think he enjoyed himself. His smile when he landed was bigger than I've ever seen on him. Hopefully this was just what he needed.

Hooked? I couldn't say. Time will tell.

If he is, he's going to have to go pretty far to find a DZ we won't find out about. On the other hand, if he wants to call in sick to go jumping (OCCASIONALLY) we can hardly act all superior considering we do the same thing. All we require is that he's honest. None of this "I'm sick *cough* *cough* can't come in today" shit. If you're playing hooky, say so!

What, it's not possible in a large company? Why not? I know from experience that large companies are usually uptight assholes with too much beaurocracy and no imagination. Is that why?

That's a fact. When my bosses told me to order a new main - whatever I wanted - after I found out my old one was trashed, their "stock" went sky high in my eyes.

Take care of your employees and they will definitely take care of business. Something many employers, in companies large or small, really need to learn.
