If you've never played before, nothing will make any sence until you get hit!!!...then every commando film you've ever watched will rattle thourgh your brain until you knees give way and you hit the deck. Then you start screaming random sargent commands at your team mates like... FLANK TO THE LEFT!.. or you go into silent mode and communicate using sign lanuage. I had this game once where I got shot in the head ( Which doesn't count normally by the way) but the initial pain was too much and I fell to the ground in shock! My buddy at the time ran over to me, lay me on his lap screaming MEDIC!!! MEDIC!!! while twenty or so plaintballs all flew past out heads and our side advanced! What a great laugh that day was! certainly get the blood flowing when you've been shot and you are still in the game! P.S. Got the sharp shooter back later on by a square shot right on the top of her head!... I know, I know, not supposed to do that but I couldn't resist! Then afterwards she came over told me someone had shot her and then let me feel her bump! hey hey!! I gave her plenty of sympathy and let her feel my bump also! AggieDave 6 #6 October 1, 2002 Don't get up right against the shelters (walls). It will make it harder for you to shoot with out exposing yourself. Instead keep back just a bit (not much, that way you can shoot around the corners with out having to move a whole lot, also. Shoot around things, not over, less of you exposed that way. There's nothing wrong with sacrificing someone as a distraction to let some other members of your team to move around on the flanks. Ricx 0 #10 October 1, 2002 Once of my first games was in southern France on this campsite! Can't remember the name of the place but all I remeber was it was really hot, so I just put an this light overall thingy they passed me, over my shorts and tee-shirt and went out! Boy did I regret that! Jes, Yea! You can get paint granades and smoke bombs in most places. I prefer the smoke bombs myself! First smoke granade situation : last 3 shooters holding this wee makeshift village, my team surrounding them. The game was ours, but we were having trouble advancing as they were poping us off one by one as we came out from the forrest. We had them surrounded and I had a granade to use so I was getting all excited. I manovered over behind this tree hoping to throw this thing into the larger building in an effort to evacuate it and pick them off. But it never quite went to planned. I ended up throwing the smoke bomb over the roof of the building and within seconds this thing blitzed the back of the buildings making it impossible for my advancing friends from the rear to see what the hell was going on! Upon the enemy realizing my mistake they charged, killing us quickly and then picked off the rest of my team who couldn't see a bloody thing! Moral of the story: Give them to someone with a good aim, and not that I should be reminding you lot but, take into account the wind direction! I didn't! jraf 0 #12 October 1, 2002 Paintball is FUN. I was shot in the head twice at a distance of less than 10 feet. Straight in the forehead - I flrw back about 3 feet from the impact. I saw all stars. Getting hit hurts, but it's fun. I would not get overly clad. Wear heavy work boots - boosts your ego. I usually wear army BDU pants and a T-shirt. Sure you have bruises, but so what. Getting hit in the butt hurts the most When in sniper position use natural ground charachteristics to help you. Be patient. Wait for a perfect shot. Have great fun!!!jraf Me Jungleman! This is the gun I got. I'm going to put a longer (14in) barrel on it and shoot the charlie in the trees!!! Chris PS. " Actually, we use that as a strategy against newbies. Have two guys run directly for the opposing team. While still out of range, hose them down. The other teams ducks for cover. Your two center guys advance a little more and then find cover. At the same time, use two on each side to flank them. The guys in front keep them pinned. The flankers finish them. JohnJug 0 #21 October 1, 2002 My one piece of important advice: Don't make a mad dash for the flag, which is positioned on top of a 6 ft hill, trip at the top of the hill, roll down the back and break your femur. It REALLY sucks. Not to mention the amount of time it cuts out of your skydiving career. Other than that, just be gung ho and have a blast!! You come from nothing. You go back to nothing. Doing so repeatedly can (in the least) get you kicked off the field with no refund, or (in the worst case) cost you an eye or worse. 'Nuff said. Communicate: If I had a dollar for every squid ('newbie') who became a silent deer in the headlights as the paint started flying, I would never have to spend another cent on the sport. Once they start shooting at you, they know where you are - might as well talk/yell it up. Yell out thier positions, how many, if they are rolling your flank - perhaps one of your budies can get an angle on him/her. Angles: Angles - paintball is a game of angles - especially if bunkers are involved. The best way to play a bunker is be back about 2 or 3 feet crouching, not sitting or lying - you may need to react in a hurry if they try to supress and rush you. Like Dave said, leaning out to the side is preferable to shooting over the top. Try to vary which side you lean out on - though is could require off hand shooting which is a pain in the ass at first. Remember right handed people will lean to the right of their bunker, lefties to the left - gives you a good idea on where they will pop out to shoot (when they figure out 'over the top' is not a good idea). Shooting: Paintballs are just that - balls - they are aerodynamicly inefficient - you will be lucky to hit the broad side of a barn 100 feet with a rental marker. Save your ammo - shooting more than 1 round a second to supress someone will just waste paint (and money) (unless we are talking serious tourney play - these guys come with a semi loaded with paint and shoot it like no tommorow). Try not to shoot someone with more than 3 rounds, that's just plain mean and can result in you getting clubbed with the Co2 cylinder. Move: Sitting still is asking to get outflanked or over run. The only good defense is a good offense - especially in paintball - everyone should be pressing forward, the ones who like to hang back GENERALLY are timid - refuse to let them hang back - getting them into the thick of the action helps your cause of eliminating the opposition and acquiring thier flag, and over all helps the timid player enjoy themselves more. It will also encourage the feeling of a team if everyone works together. Buddy everyone up if you can, every if you have squads, everyone should feel they have one person that they can count on to watch thier back. Plan: Have one, keep it simple. I like the 3 prong - 1 team up the left tape, 1 team up the right tape, one up the center, no defenders - all with the objective of pushing the other team into a corner and keeping them there while someone snags the flag. Aggressiveness is generally preferable to defensiveness - if you are not flanking them - you can be assured they are flanking you. Reloading: If you are not shooting, yelling or running - you should be reloading. Running out of paint just as you line up the 'sights' on someone really can ruin the game for ya. Rambo: Every dream of being Rambo incarnate will go out the door in the first 2 minutes of your first game and you will realize (hopefully) how easy it is to get shot. Newbie women tend to get into the game a bit slower than newbie guys - but tend to be better team players and will not go charging off on thier own, only to become a liability when they get shot and open a hole in your line. If you can get a few chicks on your team - you will see what I mean - they are more likely to work with the team than take off and do thier own thing. But then again, my gun is a Spyder with a Bob Long Cyclone 2 bolt and an All American 16" rifled barrel. I did some tricks to get the fps up to where I wouldn't hit anyone if they were closer then 200ft to me, but I could flank, get a good spot out of range and pick off targets easily. Then again, I hate field ball, the stuff we played were more scenerio type games in about 10 acres of woods and stuff (creeks, train tracks, woods, etc). There were a few of us with serious sniper setups, guille suits and a few had some homebuilt silencers. Man that used to be fun.
