AggieDave 6 #3 October 3, 2002 I'm sorry to here this. What company? Are you sure you're one of the ones getting hit? How good are you at packing? weegegirl 2 #6 October 3, 2002 It's an insurance company based out of Massachusetts. I'm not sure if I'll get hit, but they've told everybody to be prepared for the worst. I think packing is starting to sound better and better.
nws01 0 #7 October 3, 2002 Losing a job is not the end of the world. Hell, I am quitting mine and I don't have a replacement. I am stupid though. Stupid, yet adventureous!

kinney29 0 #9 October 3, 2002 You gotta have a plan. Mine is to live like a bum in my car. Shower at truck stops, get a job working security at a food warehouse (for free food) and spend every cent I make on gas and skydiving. There is another round coming at the end of this month that will finally hit our org. We thought we'd been passed over, but found out yesterday that 12% of our staff will get a 60-day notice at Halloween...it's entirely possible that I will be among them, due to lack of seniority. weegegirl 2 #11 October 3, 2002 That stinks, guy. Sorry to hear that. Your lucky though... 60 day notice. We get immediate action with one week severence pay. Oh, well. If it happens, I'll be packin and workin manifest until the season ends here, then I'll head south for the winter.
riggerrob 643 #12 October 3, 2002 Hint, buy a van so you can avoid the whole apartment/moving hassle. My 1975 VW Westfalia was the best investment I ever made. I lived in it on and off for a couple of years while working at various DZs in Southern California. Square One even listed my address as "the orange van in the parking lot." Yah, the company's pretty good about these matters; one week's severance pay for each year of service, etc. Trouble with that is I've only been with the company for two years. Much as it pains me, I'm trying to get back with the Feds after five years away."The mouse does not know life until it is in the mouth of the cat."
