PhillyKev 0 #6 October 3, 2002 What a great race it would be if it were Cooter vs. Rhino
 billvon 3,120 #7 October 3, 2002 Doesn't seem so strange to me. We've elected actors before; had a president who used to be an actor not so long ago. Sonny Bono, Jesse Ventura, Clint Eastwood - all were elected to various high-up governmental positions. As we speak, FX is putting together a game show that will select a presidential candidate from a pool of would-be reality show stars. We worship movie stars in the popular media; why wouldn't we vote for them?
 Thanatos340 1 #8 October 3, 2002 Ben Jones has been a congressman before. Served 89 to 93. He served on some fairly powerful committees while in office. This is almost as bad as some guy who made a career staring in movies with a chip named Gonzo running for president.
 billvon 3,120 #11 October 3, 2002 >Did you read the article? He's campaigning IN character, that's what I > thought was odd. Yep, well, if he's to be elected, that's what voters want. Actors portray roles, and that's what people see of them. Do you really think anyone who elected Clint Eastwood did so because they thought he would turn out to be an effeminate, sensitive liberal who was sensitive to the politically correct nature of the times? Or did they elect him because they like the character he always plays - an honorable, tough-as-nails, in-your-face, get things done kinda guy? And he will not really be running in character in the final analysis. "Cooter" will not be an option on the ballot.
