Explination as requested by the Bytch:

A friend of mine from Columbia (the country not the city I currently live in) has been living here in the US for a few years, she finishes school in two months and here visa will expire. This weekend I'm at the dropzone and get a call from her and she says she needs to talk to me urgently. So I get to her apartment and she hands me a bottle of the most disgusting Hungarian liquor ever made and has me take 2 shots. Then she asks me to ... marry her so she can stay in the US. She told me to think about it for a few days, but I'm pretty sure that I'm gonna say no. I will feel bad if she has to leave, but that's a 3 year commintment.

Good to see the romance hasn't gone out of the relationship. And by the way, "disgusting Hungarian liquor" doesn't even narrow it down. NASA used their plum brandy for several of the first Mercury space shots.

Just as a thought, wouldn't doing something like that be illegal? Not trying to be a moralist, here, but is it worth risking your money, time, freedom? I'm betting not.

Even worse than the length of time you are stuck being married . . . is that if INS catches you . . . the penalities are pretty stiff. . . everything from her getting deported as well as multi-thousand dollar fines and heavy jail time (that you would be subject too). . .

It would be best to stay away from this all together man!

that's not really that bad. INS has too much shit to take care of. i know couple
of people who did that. not that i suggest or advice anythiong though :)

Personaly Kinney I wouldn't get involved with it. I'm sorry your friend is going to have to go back to her country. For your safety an health I wouldn't suggest even trying to beat the INS at their game.

I agree, I was talking to some of our friends after she left, and they could tell that I was a little upset that she would puuting in the situation. But they assured me they wouldn't fault me if I say no.

Not a chance. Don't do it. There seems to be little in it for you, and about a million ways it could screw up. From the legal issues, to the emotional ones, it is a bad scene. What about when you find someone you really love and want to marry. Whoops. You ARE married already.

If you want to continue dating, how are you going to make things look acceptible to the INS while making things work for you. As you bring a date home, are you going to say, "Don't mind her. She's just my wife." As amusing as it may be, I could see it giving you some problems.

A friend of mine did that once. Of course, he was actually dating his wife beforehand, and she was also from Serbia or something, so it was somewhat urgent (at the time) that she not have to go back there. It was funny. They dated on and off while they were married. I guess they still are. Don't know. Fittingly, my buddy is now in law school.

Can't do that, If she had more than a couple of thousand too her name she would start graduate courses to keep her student visa, but its 22 grand a semester.
