PLFKING 4 #1 October 6, 2002 I don't know why, but this mental image has been in my mind for several months now. Has anyone ever dragged a toe across the lip of the Falls, or attempted to ? I would think it would make for some pretty awesome pics. Don

PLFKING 4 #3 October 6, 2002 Don't know, but the times I've been there, it never seemed that the ever-present cloud of mist was moving in any way......and I'm not trying it with my 109 jumps, either ! It just seems doable by someone who knows what they're doing.......stay parallel to the edge, drag a toe, and if you had problems, just turn and land in the water below the falls. It would probably be illegal also, but no more so than the dozens who've gone over it in barrels. Sunset glaring across the water in the background, point-of-view from the bank looking right down the lip, sunlight catching the droplets from the rooster-tail ? It would be pretty nice. jimmytavino 16 #4 October 7, 2002 "land in the water beneath the falls" Yahoo. I'd love to see that...We climb to altitude within view of the NIAGARA FALLS and that image is as awesome as I need. The falls dump into a serious, and swirling cauldron at the base, then just downstream is a world class whirlpool, and the Niagara River normally has 3 to 5 foot waves, crashing everywhere, as it rolls "downhill" to Lake Ontario.... A dozen of our Club Members enjoyed the "Jetboat Ride on The Niagara River" a year ago or so. It was super. The boats are equipped to carry 30 or so passengers, who are properly warned that "you WILL get soaked to the skin"........ and YOU DO. .. (be sure to bring a change of clothes).. the ride starts downstrream of the falls, and the boats plow their way upstream to the base of the falls. the rapids are big time, the ride is a blast,, but you come to understand that the toe skim,, could be your last,, cause while gettin there can be fun,,, the rescue boats, might never find you... but let us know when an attempt is planned, so we can be onsite with the cell phone pre programmed for 911 !!!! Go for It!!!! or maybe..........even better, let someone ELSE go for it" jt Frontier Skydivers Club For a great view of the Falls from above check out Paul Gath's Photo, at our web site,, www.frontierskydivers.com

dp1l 0 #13 October 7, 2002 Any chance of doing the same thing with Victoria Falls?
nacmacfeegle 0 #14 October 7, 2002 The set up would be narrower, and there isn't the same run off with a relatively safe area downstream..... Or did you mean teh photoshop thing -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. Quote Has anyone ever dragged a toe across the lip of the Falls, or attempted to ? The toe right on the lip with droplets getting kicked up would be awesome. flyhi 24 #17 October 7, 2002 Quote Here, now he's swooping the other way... Sorry, fudd, totally unbelievable. If it was real, he would have about 150 sponsors' patches (Red Bull, Go Fast, Budweiser, Motrin, ...) all over him.Actually looks very realistic. The reflection in the water is what really sells it.Shit happens. And it usually happens because of physics.
fudd 0 #18 October 7, 2002 The jumper is taken from the dz.com galleries, the picture of niagara I found on the web somewhere...Photoshop job 5-10 minutes...The competition is now open for everyone to enter. nacmacfeegle 0 #20 October 7, 2002 The roof of the wee boat--maid of the mists?--Yeah, I know it was a joke.......But the gorge imm downstream of Victoria falls is much tighter than the 'space' downstream of Niagra.... Either way, you ain't getting out of either with a dry rig. -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. rhino 0 #21 October 7, 2002 Realistically, Their is MUCH too strong of a wind coming from that water.. That water creates a HUGE wind.. And the rapids down stream aren't that "at all" survivable Those pictures kick ass!! Rhino

Jayboz 0 #23 October 7, 2002 from http://www.blincmagazine.com/cms/article_18.shtml 1906 A British expatriate named Bobby Leach jumped from the Rainbow Bridge between Niagara Falls, Ontario and Niagara Falls, New York with a parachute in 1906, landing in the Niagara River. At that time the bridge was only about half the distance from the falls that it is now (original bridge was destroyed by ice in the '30's). Leach was a daredevil, twice swimming across the Whirlpool rapids as a stunt. He later jumped from a plane over Canada but was blown back and landed in New York.
