nws01 0 #1 October 10, 2002 I have had a sore knee the past couple of weeks and two days ago I hurt it really bad moving some boxes at work. I woke up early yesterday morning and took some ibuprofen and iced it hoping it would heal. This morning it is still hurting. I can't put my leg straight out or straight back without it feeling like someone is stabbing it with a hot knife. I am not wanting to go to the doctor because I hate it when you go there and the doc just says ice it and don't walk on it. Any opinions?
nacmacfeegle 0 #2 October 10, 2002 Nip down to the kitchen and get a bag of frozen peas. Works much better than an ice pack, and has the same effect. Ibuprofen is good for teh pain, but you can't beat plain old aspirin to beat the swelling and inflammation. Check with your quack on dosage tho... heal soon Bro.-------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. jfields 0 #3 October 10, 2002 Sadly, I say go to the doc. 95% of the time, they tell you shit you already know and you feel like you wasted your time and money. It is the 5% of the time when they know something that you don't that makes it important. The time when you don't get it checked out and something gets even worse will bite you in the ass. A (very!) distant relative went something like 14 years without going to the gyno. She died young of a tumor that could have been spotted by a routine checkup. Pretty damned stupid. I'm not saying your knee is like a huge tumor, but in general it is worth the aggravation just to rule out the serious stuff. I know it is not generally a laughing matter, but Nathan, if you did get an ovarian tumor, it would be damned impressive in a freak-o-nature kinda way. ernokaikkonen 0 #4 October 10, 2002 Don't you think there might actually be something busted in your knee? See a doctor, that's my advice.

weid14 0 #11 October 10, 2002 Don't go to a regular doc, go to an orthopedist, or sports specialized doc. (Unless of course your freedom of choice has been removed by joining an HMO). If it's cartlidge they will give you two choices, live withit or get scoped, teh scope isn't that bad. If it hurts waliking down stairs, but not up, it's probably not an ACL or something similar. it's something you should get checked out though.

nws01 0 #13 October 10, 2002 Problem is I have not filled out my benefit information because I knew I would be leaving. So now if I go it will cost me a lot of money and it all comes out of my pocket.
skygal3 0 #14 October 10, 2002 better to pay now than to pay when your knee is **really** fucked... go to a clinic!

weid14 0 #16 October 10, 2002 oh, well, that's not a good thing, but if you can, I would fill it out now, you can also get extended health care after leaving that way (Cobra). not a bad idea if you're going to travel the country jumping and partying (it's the after hours/rainy day stuff that may get ya)
justdumi 0 #17 October 10, 2002 Well here in Africa if i dont want to go to a doctor i go to a witch-doctor. I can recommend this good one if you want. Muenkel 0 #20 October 10, 2002 It sounds to me like a sprain, which take a little while to heal. Iceing it will definitely help. You also should keep it elevated and stay off it as much as possible. The hot fork thing could just be a result of HH and his voodoo dolls. Lastly, go to one of those granola natural herbs stores and get yourself some Arnica oil. Rub it in to the injured area several times a day. That stuff is magic. And I am being totally serious here. Good luck and feel better. _________________________________________ Chris

skycat 0 #22 October 10, 2002 My PCL is fucked in my left knee and it always bothers me walking down stairs or when hiking back down a mountain. Then again it's very easy for me to hyperextend my knees, I've also been told "Wow, you have really loose joints" Ummm....how come I have a feeling that is a bad thing. Btw....when I sprained my back my Dr. had me taking 1000mg of Ibprofen every 4 hrs for swelling. Fly it like you stole it!
skreamer 1 #23 October 10, 2002 Sounds like an amputation is in order . Just make sure they get the right leg! (unless it is the left leg!)
Muenkel 0 #24 October 10, 2002 Forget the ibuprofen. You need your liver for the beer. I'm telling you, try the arnica! _________________________________________ Chris
