Can your Garage Match this?!

So, does the waste oil just 'soakaway' into the ground?

I've seen a lot of oil soakaways in Nigeria, and I really don't like them..>:(

>I use my liver as an alcohol soakaway...is that bad??

No, your using a proper filtering technology(your liver) before the waste is passed on to the environment. The only problem is what we are going to do with your liver when you're done using it... Probably dump it at a toxic waste disposal plant.

>Soakaway...pour the nasty stuff into the ground and hope it disappears......

That's what figured... I was hoping it wouldn't be that. But concerning the "Ultimate Garage", wasn't there a tank for that sort of stuff?(I didn't really read the pages that carefully, but there was a tank...)

They called it a 'seepage tank', which looks like a soakaway to me....:(

Oh yeah, loads of holes in the sides is a dead giveaway if one bothers to look with one's eyes... my bad.

Aren't there, like, laws against that kind of thing? Dumping petrochemical waste would get you in a lot of trouble here... I mean, doesn't that stuff end up in the phreatic water? WTF, to ask the question?

"It looks like he's got a line to a tank that's lined. "

I don't see it, its why I asked...I see a membrane to stop the tank silting up....but no lining as such....
For a waste oil storage tank, I would expect some form of vent / flame trap arrangement, a seal on teh inlet line(similar to a U-bend on a sewer line)and a larger access way to get a gulley gulper type pump in there....

That tank is for the floor drain. He can't run the drain directly to the sewer system because of the inevitibility that some chemicals will get in there. It's still illegal for chemicals to be dumped directly in there. Idealistically, only soapy water will go in there but there will likely be a lot of residue.

Oil and petrol refuse has to be properly disposed of. Gas stations have storage tanks for Harry Homeowner to come and dump their oil changes into but this guy would probably keep his in an oil drum and then drive it to a collectin center.

After reading an looking at the pictures ect.. I have to agree with Justin & robzay on this one. I don't think this guy is going to be dumping any waste on his floor nor down the floor drain. At least I would hope not. I think the floor drain is for soapy water when he washes the floor. I think he's got other ideas for his petrochemical waste.

IMHO only...
