nubain1 0 #1 October 9, 2002 Hey all, a quick beer question for the group.I know of the tradition of beer for doing a first. But here's my situation.I started Aff Awhile ago and have not yet given the beer for that first jump.I'm now at AFF level 5.hope to get through it soon if work and the weather co-operates.Anyway to stop rambling I was considering buying a keg for when I do my grad jump.Do you think this would make up for not paying that first case or should I still throw a case in when I take the keg? That might be California rules, but over here, you are definitely buying beer for your first jump. If we are talking AFF, then you are definitely buying another after your Cat E's. SBS 0 #7 October 9, 2002 Some may argue with this, but beer is not really owed for the first jump. When you graduate is generally when the responsibilities begin. :) If you were to come to your dz with a keg, though...I have a funny feeling they would love you forever. :) -S_____________ I'm not conceited...I'm just realistic about my awesomeness... AggieDave 6 #9 October 9, 2002 You'll be very popular very quickly if you bring a free keg to the DZ...--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline."
Sebazz1 2 #10 October 9, 2002 This is how we do it where I am from. Tandem & AFF Students do not owe beer. But they may contribute to the beer fund and/or buy beer of their own free will. Should an AFF student have a Mal then beer shall be owed and a bottle to the rigger. Once you do graduate AFF you will owe beer and lots of it. First solo, first ......., etc., etc... We have a rule also where the newest graduates must wear a silly purple robe and crown. If they are ever caught without it on the DZ they owe beer. Until the next graduate when they pass it on
nubain1 0 #11 October 9, 2002 When I did my first tamdem at raeford with a group of people from work we all had to buy shots for the occasion.I just figured that the tradtion carried on over to AFF and from then on.
f1freak 0 #12 October 9, 2002 Hell, the last question on the writen test for the FJC when i started jumping was like "What should you bring after making your first jump to keep the karma good?" mujie96 0 #13 October 9, 2002 I think you should come out to Hawaii this fine Columbus day weekend, do your graduation jump at DropZone, and get us all shitfaced. Bring the keg and we'll even overlook the case. Hell, you might even convince usmcdannyboy to make you breakfast the day after. Jess Just keep swimming...just keep swimming.... The tandem I did previous to my AFF got me out of that one...
robzay 0 #15 October 9, 2002 Do you jump at Air Adventure California? I saw their last AFF grad walking around with his crown, cape, and septre. He almost had to buy beer 'cause he was caught without his crown. Overall a truely hideous getup! WHAT A RIOT!!

riddler 0 #19 October 9, 2002 Considering what you have to pay for AFF, the DZO should buy cases of beer for you. I think I bought three cases on AFF - first jump, first time in the peas, and graduating. Maybe not traditional, but that's what I did. These days, I live by the King James version of the beer rules (i.e. the ones on the all-mighty Internet). Here's a copy: http://www.eco.utexas.edu/Homepages/Staff/Faulkner/skydive/beer_rules.html That may not be good enough for you, but it's good enough for me. If I had to buy a case for every first, I would be buying after every jump. And I know I buy more and drink less than most of my friends, so I don't want to hear your guff.Trapped on the surface of a sphere. XKCD

robzay 0 #24 October 9, 2002 "The DZ I call home right now is Adventure Center Skydiving in Hollister California." Couldn't remember the name... King Air with an off site landing area right? Great view of Monterray Bay and Mountains. Beautiful place to jump. Crazy Larry still rigging there? Just to stay on thread topic... yes I brought BEER...for first jump at another dz and for first jump out of King Air.
ChileRelleno 0 #25 October 9, 2002 WOW quite the debate you started here about when the beer rule starts.... Maybe you might just buy the keg now and announce that you will be throwing a keg party at the DZ for your Graduation. This will cover any and all beer that you may or may not owe and will make you very popular at the DZ atleast as long as the tap spouts beer LOL. Remember that some folks don't drink and bring some non alchy beverages to keep them happy also. The best part of the beer rule is getting to sit around and talk skydiving with your peers, there is so much to be learned...
