freebird 0 #1 October 18, 2002 How many of you do not like the idea of flying a commercial jet at 30,000 feet without gear? I do not like it one little bit. Im going to Cancun this weekend. Guess I need a tranq . or something. I hate being on a plane without gear. ACTUALLY, I have never been on a plane before I started jumping.Last year when we went to Cancun I was freaked out everytime the plane started to get bumpy. I feel naked without gear on a commercial plane. This time I ain't gonna do it, Im knocking myself out before this load.
pop 0 #2 October 18, 2002 You can bring you gear on board. I always do when I fly. Maybe that will make you feel more comfortable. You can always strap it on in case of an emergency and bail. 7 ounce wonders, music and dogs that are not into beer
rhino 0 #3 October 18, 2002 I haven't flown in 2 years other than on a jump plane.. Not out of being paranoid just don't fly much.. And frankly I don't have an urge to get on an airliner any time soon.. Rhino
Rdutch 0 #4 October 18, 2002 No chance of getting the Door open in an emergency. Gear on a passenger jet might give you support mentally. But physically it wont help at all. nacmacfeegle 0 #5 October 18, 2002 Be brave timid Tiff, if you need to get out at 30,000' you will probably die way before you need to reach for the hackey....Especially if you are dressed for your destination. Flying in a jet is way safer than driving round the Beltway in Houston......Just trust me on this. Don't take a tranq, gin and tonic is the civilised way to fly. -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. pop 0 #8 October 18, 2002 Very true. No problem though if the tail breaks off. Is it possible to exit and airplane doing 450 mph and not hurt yourself or your gear?7 ounce wonders, music and dogs that are not into beer

nws01 0 #11 October 18, 2002 QuoteYou can bring you gear on board. I always do when I fly. I could not do it when I went to Perris. They almost shot me and took me to a private room to inspect it and then made me check it. This is Boston though and this is where the terrorist departed on 9/11 so maybe that has something to do with it. Security has been tough here ever since. pop 0 #14 October 18, 2002 Its an international flight. I've never tried to take my rig into another country by plane. Within the US its pretty much no hassle most of the time. Once I was hasseled. Taken to the back room, but I just asked for the supervisor and everything was solved within 15 minutes7 ounce wonders, music and dogs that are not into beer
PhreeZone 20 #15 October 18, 2002 You have a rig... he don't simple math there... And out of all commercial plane accidents in the last 20 years there is only 2 or 3 that having a rig on when the accident happened could have helped you. And in those there was no real possibility to get up, take a rig out of the gear bag, strap it on then bail. (PanAm over Lockerbie you might have been blown clear of the cabin and had a chance to pull) Gear on a commercial airline is for easy of travel only, it won't save your life.Yesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com

Every load. Do you see me wrecking on every other landing? No, it's part of the package. I hear it all the time "Oh! (whaaaaa) I'm never landing with the plane. It's soooo scary. I'll jump before I ever have to land with the plane. I feel naked without my rig.......whaaaaa". LOL..........oh suck it up already. You jump from a plane into freefall but landing with the airplane is what really scares you? People are so funny. Driving on the highway at 85 mph with other large metal objects around them in close proximety doesn't scare them but they'll abandon a house if they see a mouse scurrying around. LOL.......bahahahhahahah [/total sarcasm]
nacmacfeegle 0 #17 October 18, 2002 alcohol makes me irritable after a couple of hours. Im taking xannax before we board. Don't wanna mix drugs and jumping tho....Relax, it wil be cool, planes hardly ever crash, well seldom really, or at least not very often, well not this week anyway...... Just out of interest who are you flying with, certain airlines have worse reputations than others..... -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. Luminous 0 #20 October 18, 2002 I bring my rig on commercial flights. Not that I have any hope of getting it on when something goes wrong. I just don't like to check it. And when you get to your seat, pull it out of the gear bag & begin to put it on, then when you look up and see someone looking at you you say "what? they didn't give you one?". I love the looks on their faces.Have a great time in Cancun! 'In an insane society a sane person seems insane.' Mr. Spock

CanuckInUSA 0 #22 October 18, 2002 I totally agree with you diverdriver. I really enjoy skydiving, but I have to laugh at some of those people who claim airplanes are dangerous. Whenever I skydive, I see the airplane landing just about the same time I'm landing with my canopy. GrumpySmurf 0 #23 October 18, 2002 "Do you see me wrecking on every other landing?" freebird 0 #24 October 18, 2002 Im not mixing . Im only taking xannax. It was hard to get too. I told my my doc the truth though. Im anti. Zooloft, Paxial, and any other SSRIs. I Hate these type drugs. they may help some, but I hate them and I do not want to take a drug forever. Only during my husbands transplant and on the plane ride. No harm in that. That is what drugs like xanax or for. To temporarily help one.
