Vance 0 #1 October 23, 2002 Texas skydivers, I need you help. I'm in Abilene (and new to Texas) and about 2.5 to 3.5 hours from several DZ's. I need a reserve repack and 4 year cypres check. Do the DZ's in the Dallas/Ft Worth area have full-time riggers, who do y'all recommend, any info would be greatly appreciated. Hope to see some of you out there, I can't wait to check out Texas from the sky Vance Vance
AggieDave 6 #2 October 23, 2002 SD Dallas has some good riggers... Too bad you're not down in this part of Texas, I know some very good riggers and know of a very good DZ too.. --"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline." Vance 0 #3 October 23, 2002 What part of Texas? Vance
AggieDave 6 #4 October 23, 2002 College Station, imagine a triangle drawn using Houston, San Antonio and Austin as the points, College Station would be in the middle.--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline."
Vance 0 #5 October 23, 2002 Sounds like a road trip may be necessary, pretty good stuff down that way huh? Vance
AggieDave 6 #6 October 23, 2002 Are you kidding? Good stuff? We've got Texas A&M, Northgate, The Dixie Chicken...If you don't enjoy the small DZ atmosphere and fun, then you can hit SD San Marcos, SD Houston or SD Spaceland all within 1-2 hrs of College Station. Then again, you've got SD Dallas right there with a Super Otter and a Caravan.--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline." Vance 0 #7 October 23, 2002 Cool! I've been wanting to check out SD Dallas, Eagle Flight, and SD Texas, but this crap weather lately hasn't helped. Hopefully there'll be blue skies soon **fingers crossed** Vance
AggieDave 6 #8 October 23, 2002 Eagle Flight was my first DZ, infact I was there this past weekend. Fun group of people there, nice little DZ. Although all we could do all weekend were hop-n-pops. --"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline."
robzay 0 #9 October 23, 2002 SD Dallas does have some good riggers. Try John Storrie, Storrie Parachute Works. He jumps out at SDDallas. (800) 928- 0157 Hope this helps.
Mad47 0 #10 October 23, 2002 You can also try Skydive Texas (it's near Denton) (817) 430-36-96 www.skydivetexas.com Ask Glen Hodgson
PhreeZone 20 #11 October 23, 2002 You can ship your Cypres directly to SSK/Airtec and just pay them for the service. Then all your rigger has to do is reinstall it and repack for you. Its about a 2 week return on the cypres from service so just remember to figure that into your time line. And you'll probally have to pay for 2 repacks if the unit is not indate at the repack time. The first to get you in the air and the second one to cover the install and repcak to put the cypres back in.Yesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com
Kris 0 #12 October 23, 2002 Agreed on Skydive Dallas. Jon McCollum there is the only one I have pack my Mirage now. Lee Hardesty is really good too and he saved my ass with some excellent rigging work at WFFC 2000. I believe he's the same Lee that runs Leading Edge, the companiy that makes containers for BASE. As for how Skydive Dallas is as a DZ, it's pretty nice. Good people, hella fast turbines, and a nice facility. ChileRelleno 0 #13 October 23, 2002 Uh Dave? If I draw a triangle using Austin, San Antonio and Houston wouldn't College Station be outside of that triangle about 35/40 miles as the crow flys??? Now if you draw that triangle using Dallas instead of the Alamo you'd be in the middle of the lower half ... I bet you need GPS to find your way back to the batcaveLOL... ChileRelleno 0 #15 October 23, 2002 Hey now! Don't forget Rich's place, Skydive Temple in Salado,TX. This is my home DZ away from home, great little Dz very very friendly Its on I-35 at Exit 282 Mile marker 282 just south of Salado. You can take a ride in Forrest Mcbrides hotrod C-182, 15,000 in with a full load in 20 minutes (this is a 182!) he has a 3 bladed prop with a souped up lycoming under the cowl...Zoom! Rich likes to BBQ and its usually his treat. ChileRelleno-Rodriguez Bro#414 Hellfish#511,MuffBro#3532,AnvilBro#9, D24868
AggieDave 6 #16 October 23, 2002 Our little 182 isn't hotrodded, but its still a really strong climber. We've thrown loads out at 15k AGL before, did it in under 30 minutes instead of 20, though...but imagine what you can do with that extra 10 minutes in the plane! You can sleep longer. Your leg can go even more asleep. You can fart more...the possibilities are endless. (Actually, I've taken to reading in the plane for the first 7,000ft or so).--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline." I dang near got thrown out of the plane (C-206) early at Salado one time, I had really rank farts, I talking stanky black clouds, it was my Bday and Iwas jumping in my Bday suit. Thought I was gonna leave grease stains ( BBQ chicken). Anyways the pilot was bitching about my state of undress before I even got in the plane and then my odor filled the plane, everytime it aired out and he closed the vent window and I'd gass'em again Very memorable jump!!!! robzay 0 #18 October 23, 2002 I've probably seen you at SDDallas (my home dz)a few times, though I am not there enough. And I'm a belly flyer, but I get a kick watching you freefliers! Maybe one day I'll switch to the dark side. Jon and Lee are good people. You're right, Lee is the owner of Leading Edge Base. Keeps trying to recuit me to CRW, but they don't have a large enough PDLightning for me!! Call me a wuss, but I'm not downsizing from a Spectre210 to a Lightning176 in one jump
heftee 0 #19 October 23, 2002 I have Brad Cole (Senior Rigger) do all my packing for me at SD Dallas. He is great! I sent in my cypress directly to SSK and had them send it to Brad. When he got it, he installed that and packed my reserve for me - along with some other minor fixes. He's super friendly, funny, time considerate and does a professional, no complaints job. He doesn't fudge on the prices, he is very reasonable. If you haven't jumped at SD Dallas yet - I highly recommend it - the staff and jumpers there are all great people! ------------------------- "If you've never jumped out of a plane, the best way I can describe it is it feels as if you've just jumped out of a freakin' plane." Zlew 0 #21 October 23, 2002 Grandberry would be the most close DZ to you, I'm not sure who is rigging out there. I reccomend Glenn at skydive Texas very highly. Can't go wrong with John Storrie either. Z
AggieDave 6 #22 October 23, 2002 Granbury. Jeff, the DZO, is a great rigger.--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline."
