Casch 0 #1 October 27, 2002 I've been jones'n for a good Skydiving book lately. Something with a real story behind it that really makes you feel like you are the one flying. Any ideas...?
PhreeZone 20 #2 October 27, 2002 Wow... a skydiver that reads.. Videos are WAY better. Check out Crosswind if you want a good video and have already seen Good Stuff.Yesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com
Jessica 0 #3 October 27, 2002 Quote Wow... a skydiver that reads.. Hey now! Casch, pickings are pretty slim when it comes to skydiving books. One good one is "Skydiving in 8 Days" by Miles Clark. It's a first-person account of going through AFF, and it's a nice read. Kind of outdated thought -- early 80s. Everybody jumped Racers. Otherwise, well...there aren't too many skydiving books with plots.Skydiving is for cool people only
Casch 0 #4 October 27, 2002 Hehe, I would love to see crosswind but I don't have the money to buy it and I haven't seen it at my DZ. Actually I was suprised to see the number of skydivers that read. Not the ability to read of course (although that was a suprise of it's own ) but the quality of books they...well I think I can safely say "we" now...WE read. Although I LOVE to watch skydiving movies I think there is something to be said of the feeling you get when you are buried in a book. I think you are able to FEEL it more because you are really using your brain not your eyes.
Casch 0 #5 October 27, 2002 QuoteOtherwise, well...there aren't too many skydiving books with plots. Well let's create a book, here I'll start: Once upon a time on a tropical island in a place where it NEVER rains yet the islands flourish, there was a DZ with every A/C you could imagine and everyone jumped for free.... narcimund 0 #6 October 27, 2002 Interesting question. I'm building a library of books about skydiving. None yet that are fiction, but I'd be interested. In the meantime, I have about a dozen books, going back to the mid 50s. I might post a bibliography someday. First Class Citizen Twice Over
FallinWoman 1 #8 October 28, 2002 I happen to like More Bedtime Stories for Skydivers....fiction....definately!!! Funny stuff! Anne ~Anne I'm a Doll!!!!
Luna 0 #9 October 28, 2002 The Endless Fall by Mike Swain is pretty cool. He is an old-timer, started jumping in the early 60's, and the book is just filled with his adventures, which are wild! Things were very different back then! Not fiction, but will grab you for sure. I'm walking a marathon to raise money for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. Click Here for more information!
