kallend 2,150 #126 October 28, 2002 QuoteQuoteSo do you believe a retarded adult with an IQ of 60 and no felony record should be allowed CCW. How about someone who just turned 18 with no felony record but a long record as a juvenile delinquent? Not his choice. Those contingencies have been taken care of just about everywhere. And I can't think of anyone who would argue that they should. I wouldn't. My reply was to Bill's statement (that you snipped): "CCW should be allowed in every state for any non felony adult who asks for one." So apparently at least one person argues that they should. Kennedy 0 #127 October 28, 2002 My apologies. I misread your post in haste. In this, though, I think if the person in question, being mentally handicapped, can take care of himself, then he can choose to own or not. If he is dependent on the care of another, being a responsible person, I would not place a firearm into his hands. [I don't know how low 60 happens to be] I would not place guns into the hands of a person I called irresponsible. I do not, though, think so highly of myself that I can deem who of all people may possess firearms. I have, and keep, a clear conscience. Everyone else's is their problem. My point was that his post is irrelevant unless he petitions his state to repeal their restrictions on sale. I thought we were on adding this new plan or not, blending in discussion of our stance (sp?) and how it applies to this topic.witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*
MarkM 0 #128 October 28, 2002 QuoteI carry a Glock 22 concealed for my job. It actually is kind of a pain especially when I'm wearing shorts and a t-shirt. Have you looked into a Glock 27? I own a 19C and 26. The 19C I use for target practice(has the recoil of a water pistol) but I used to carry the 26 with a Kydex IWB holster. It concealed very well. The 27 is the same size. Actually here's the holster: http://sidearmor.net/cgibin/MyStore/PerlShop.cgi?ACTION=dummy&thispage=Glock.htm&ORDER_ID=195309352#iwb
kallend 2,150 #129 October 28, 2002 Quote My apologies. I misread your post in haste. No problem - I'd still jump with you.I have no philosophical disagreement with gun owners or gun ownership. I have enjoyed shooting at both police and army ranges and pheasant hunting with a shotgun. What I believe strongly is that the entire wording of the 2nd amendment is relevant. If you become a gun owner, you volunteer for the "militia" (whatever that means in 2002), and you thereby implicitly agree to be "well regulated", which should include regular firearms training, and include the possibility of being deemed unsuitable for the task. It is tragic that thousands (including many children) are killed in accidents each year, most of which were completely avoidable. Anyone that leaves a loaded weapon lying around a house with children has to be a total moron and ipso facto not suitable to be a firearms owner. What is needed is some kind of filter that excludes these people before they kill someone.
