dove 0 #4 October 29, 2002 Yup, falling off ladders and all that shit is great until the ambulance carts you off the dz. You can't always talk your way out of it when they have to cut your gear off. Don't F@$% with the insurance companies. It is a federal crime. Not trying to be a hardass, but if you get hurt skydiving and your paperwork says you arrived by ambulace from such-and-such skydiving center, you're screwed. Fall in dove. scottbre 0 #5 October 29, 2002 I don't think most health insurance plans care how you were injured as long as it happened while you were covered with the insurance. "Your mother's full of stupidjuice!" My Art Project

Vallerina 2 #7 October 29, 2002 Yeah, you have a chance at fooling an insurance company into giving you benefits that you haven't paid for, but why bother? Insurance companies have large legal departments that investigate suspicious claims and getting caught just means you'll be spending three times as much money than you had originally planned for. Plus, if you get away with them paying for a false claim, you inevitably screw the honest people who pay for full coverage over. So, spend the few extra bucks a month to get what you need. There's a thin line between Saturday night and Sunday morning
TequilaGirl 0 #8 October 29, 2002 I always tell the doctors I was skydiving - my medical insurance has never said a word to me about it.......
freebird 0 #9 October 29, 2002 I hope I will never be so badly hurt that my gear will have to be cut off . But I sure would not care who knew in that situation. My husband said his agent did ask him if he were a skydiver. They asked me some questions but not if I were a skydiver. So why should I mention it? sunshine 2 #10 October 29, 2002 It's not worth it to lie. I was honest both times i ended up needing medical care. My insurance covered their portion without a problem. ___________________________________________ meow I get a Mike hug! I get a Mike hug!
wildblue 7 #11 October 29, 2002 QuoteWRONG! Think again. Check your exclusions. Life insurance is different, they can actually exclude you there. Are they allowed to with health insurance? Remember a long while back, there was postings about a new law that they were trying to pass that would allow insurance companies to deny claims depending on how it happened? I don't know if that ever passed or not, I never heard anything else about it. Edit: Link to USPA's thing about from 2001. What ever happened with this? http://www.uspa.org/insurance.htm Edited Again: I've been informed that that has not changed. So yes, they can exclude you from coverage in cases of skydiving accident. And insurance companies have lots of lawyers and investigators, I wouldn't try too much to fool them. My personal experience: I told them exactly what happened with my leg, but I left the DZ's name etc out of it. The insurance comapany sent me a form twice asking where it happened, was it at a place of business, who's property, etc. I just left it at 'muddy field' just in case they got any silly ideas.it's like incest - you're substituting convenience for quality
nacmacfeegle 0 #12 October 29, 2002 "I hope I will never be so badly hurt that my gear will have to be cut off . " So do I little friend, but shit happens, and its far better to chop up gear than risk severing, say a femoral artery, or causing you some spinal problems. If you biff hard enough to break bones, they will cut your gear up. Live with it, deal with it, and thank your lucky stars that you survived.-------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. freebird 0 #13 October 29, 2002 Life insurance is different, they can actually exclude you there*** Yes that is true. That is what I think my hubby is worried about I may not get approved for (life insurance.) But I was not sure about the health insurance.
scottbre 0 #14 October 29, 2002 QuoteWRONG! Think again. Check your exclusions. I have pretty basic, "short-term" health insurance, and a while ago when I hurt my foot because of a failure to flare, no one from the insurance company asked me anything. They were even able to negotiate the price of the xray and consulation lower. Nowhere in my contract does it mention anything about excluding coverage for extreme sports. dove 0 #15 October 29, 2002 If you get an owie and your bud takes you to the ER that's one thing. If an ambulance picks you up you will probably get an accident report form to fill out. And don't forget they have a report from the ambulance where you were picked up from. Fall in dove.
ChileRelleno 0 #16 October 30, 2002 Lets face it, if your insurance is ANY good it doesn't matter how you injure yourself and if its NOT then they'll nitpick everything you and your doctor do anyways...
