Onetime 0 #1 November 1, 2002 If you are left handed can your rig have the BOC throw out from the left hand side and can your cut away handle be on the left and your reserve handle on the right?
FallinWoman 1 #2 November 1, 2002 Why would you change things from what you were taught as a student? Just a question... Anne ~Anne I'm a Doll!!!!
airgord 1 #3 November 1, 2002 I have seen a rig that was set up for a left sided BOC, the rest of the handles were still in the standard location. Did not ask why he had it set up that way.
Jimbo 0 #4 November 1, 2002 Yes you can. I know of one skydiver who has his BOC open at both ends. Packers usually pack it with the hackey on the right, he changes it to the left. I believe that his was setup this due to a shoulder injury. - Jim"Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed.
Onetime 0 #5 November 1, 2002 I have a sillohette picture of a five way formation skydive. My husbands first dive after his heart attack. It appears the print from the negative is mirrored and his reserve handle shows on the right. That is where the thought came from.
jtval 0 #6 November 1, 2002 sure you can. but just remember as left handers in a backwards world we are force to put up with their crazy twisted ways. if you ever plan on selling your rig later you will have to switch it back. Im right minded and I just use righty rigs. its just as easy IMHOMy photos My Videos

You can have a rigger modify the BOC so it can seperate from either the left or the right side in an emergency, and then opens up for the hackey on the opposite side. The handle is flat and has a "ripcord" that basically causes the BOC flap to tear off and release the PC. It's not a good idea to put all your pull handles on the same side of your body, you need options. If you lose control of one arm and you can't reach from the other side for some reason, you might seriously delay opening while you figure things out. Or worse: you might have to rely on your AAD (if you have one) to save you. If you have a trick shoulder like I do, I practice emergency procedures the one-handed style first from the arm I normally pull with, then with the other arm. Hopefully within a few years and enough weight lifting my shoulder will stay closed, but for now I must be very prepared for it to happen again. ____________________________________________________________ I'm RICK JAMES! Did not ask why he had it set up that way. Sometimes AFF instructors do that. Our DZ manager has a rig set up so that the pud can be on either side. Cutaway and reserve handles in their regular places.
jimjumper 25 #9 November 4, 2002 I know a guy who has his gear set up this way due to a prosthetic right hand. But he has an SOS set-up so that he can cut away and pull the reserve one-handed.
