FliegendeWolf 0 #1 November 8, 2002 Grr... I'm so freaking annoyed. I was interested in a rig I saw posted here, so I spoke with the seller. She was not comfortable just shipping the rig to my rigger, so she insisted we go through Escrow.com, and we would split the escrow fee ($30 each). I said fine. I sent the payment to the escrow service. It took them two weeks to clear payment on my check, so that by the time they did, my rigger was leaving for Georgia. So I had this person overnight the rig to me. Took it to the rigger, and it was a complete lemon. I shipped it back with a check for the overnight delivery. So, I sent the escrow service a check for the rig, plus $30 escrow fee + $30 shipping fee and a check to the seller for overnight delivery-$30 shipping fee I sent to escrow.com. Now I find out that (my own fault...I should have read the fine print) that when you reject the item, you are entirely responsible for the escrow fee. I asked the seller to please write me a check for her half, and of course I have not gotten a response. This means that to look, JUST TO LOOK, at this piece of $#!^, I have spent $30+$30+$40 to send it back+$70 to cover her shipping = $170! This really pisses me off. I would not recommend using this escrow service for buying a used rig.A One that Isn't Cold is Scarcely a One at All

PhreeZone 20 #3 November 8, 2002 Thats any Escrow service... and if you look at it you payed over 110 in shipping fees to look at it and only 60 in escrow. If you had let another rigger look at it you would'nt have had to pay overnight fees on it in the first place. Word of advice... talk to the seller more to see if they will ship to the DZ directly and then you can deal with it and the rigger there. I've bought a complete rig, and 2 mains with having the seller ship them directly to me at work and I'll inspect the stuff myself. If the seller is hesitating too much on the inspection, something is fishey. Offer to cover shipping in the purchase price and that tends to help too.Yesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com
FliegendeWolf 0 #4 November 8, 2002 No, I understand that. What is that quote on somebody's signature here? Knowlegde is what you get when you read the fine print, Experience is what you get when you don't... Regardless, I think I'm going to steer clear of ANY escrow service from now on.A One that Isn't Cold is Scarcely a One at All
Ducky 0 #5 November 9, 2002 Welcome to the nightmares of buying gear. I got jerked around so mnay times by people online that I gave up too. I finally bought from someone in person. I suggest using a reputible dealer if you can not find anything local. You MAY find a great deal from a stranger on the net. More than like ly the deal that is "too good to be true" is exactly that, a lie or a ripoff. Good luck, KwakSometimes your the bug, sometimes your the windshield. I guess I'm one of the lucky ones. The guy I got my main from was hooked up with me through this place by another poster. He sent it to my rigger, my rigger inspected it, told me to grab it. I did, and then sent a check for the price he asked plus shipping and voila...I had a canopy. Exactly what I wanted and needed. O.K., so the colors aren't what I'd'a chosen but still, a great, easy deal, no escrow, checked by a rigger...all good. Now to figure out how to pay for the rest of it. And then find the rest of it.
