ramon 0 #26 November 7, 2002 If you really are considering turbo come here. www.turbomustangs.com. The only reason I was going to do one was to be different than all the supercharged folks, it is something that can be complex. nice car BTW."Revolution is an abrupt change in the form of misgovernment.", Ambrose Bierce. freeflyz 0 #27 November 7, 2002 The compression is about 8:5.1 on a stock mustang, cause of the crappy fuel you can buy! With 6psi you should be at least 10:5.1,no prob, anymore then that see ya later motor,How many miles do you have on the motor???I work for Total Seal Rings Inc,We do Nascar,Indy,Topfuel Dyno test to see how are rings do in certain motors,Right now we have Twin turbo Supra 1000HP Nitrous super sweet. if you want to call me i can help you a little bit more.800-874-2753 ask for Lewis
ramon 0 #28 November 7, 2002 cool. not sure what the GT is stock. I better keep it at 6psi. hopefully if I open up the exaust the wastegate will handle it well. The 03 cobra is 8.5/1 and does 8 psi with the eaton blower."Revolution is an abrupt change in the form of misgovernment.", Ambrose Bierce.
Slappie 9 #29 November 7, 2002 Ramon, the 03` is also an "iron block" it's not alluminium like yours. So think about that too. I think it is feasable to install the turbo as your asking. Also there is alot of info in this thread to think about too. Your taking a stock engine an going to ram fuel-air-mix down it's throat. Even at 6psi your going to have detonation problems. Retarding the timing might help but it's not the best fix. You'll have to look into a new intake, exaust ect.. an the rings are another thing to think about replacing. I know I'm just repeating what others have said. Also think about your warranty? If it's still good you might want to wait before you do all this work too. Also think about the tranny.. you'll be delivery more torque an hp's to it. .. sounds like a fun project. Good luck.. AggieDave 6 #30 November 7, 2002 Dude, you can buy a nice intake for your car for a few hundred, I promis, something w/ a K&N on it. The one for my truck only cost $130, go pick up the "I'm a teenager and want to race my car" magazines and look at the adds, you'll find something that's actually worth while and fairly inexpensive.--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline." ramon 0 #31 November 7, 2002 I can buy a cold air intake worth 6 hp yes. but new bullit intake manifold ported and polished (inside not shiny on out) is about 2k long tube headers $500 ported and polished heads ~$1500 dyno tune $500 installation $1000 that combo would give me about 340-350 hp (instead of 260)hp ramon"Revolution is an abrupt change in the form of misgovernment.", Ambrose Bierce. Slappie 9 #32 November 7, 2002 Or you can save your pennys an just buy an 03` Stang.. stock 340hp Think about it.. ramon 0 #33 November 7, 2002 I don't think I'll get detonation unless, I get on it and my wastegate and boost gauge fails and I go to 8 psi or above and I do not have octane boost or race gas in the car. If more than one of those happens I am in trouble anyway Detonation is caused by an air fuel mixture that reaches auto-ignition temperature in a part of the cylinder before the flame front from the spark plug reaches that part of the cylinder. I will have a big inter cooler and my turbo should be properly sized to stay in the most efficient part of the curve thus reducing temperature increase from compression (I hope) "Revolution is an abrupt change in the form of misgovernment.", Ambrose Bierce. nitrodan 0 #34 November 7, 2002 THE STOCK COMP RATIO IN THE 4.6 LITER ENGINE IS VERY HIGH FOR A TURBO SO BEWARE OF A PROTOTYPE UNLESS THEY DID A LOT OF R&D. YOU CAN PLAN ON THE FUEL UPGRADES THE MORE AIR YOU PUMP THROUGH AN ENGINE THE MORE FUEL IT WILL NEED. BLOWN HEAD GASKETS ALTHOUGH EXPENSIVE ARE NOT ALWAYS A BAD THING THEY ARE YOUR WEAK LINK AND THEY ARE CHEAPER THAN A NEW ENGINE IF YOU USE THE COPPER GASKETS AND THEY ARE TO STRONG YOU COULD BURN PISTONS OR VALVES OR WORSE. freeflyz 0 #37 November 7, 2002 Have you tryed to advance or retard timing?????
INSANEDADDY 0 #38 November 7, 2002 The only way to advance the timing is have the chip reburned. I just havent got around to pulling the chip out and having it reburned. ramon 0 #39 November 7, 2002 I'll be upside down at least 7 k on mine if I trade it in. turns out to be a 10k cost."Revolution is an abrupt change in the form of misgovernment.", Ambrose Bierce.
ramon 0 #40 November 7, 2002 Yeah Corky Bell (turbo guru) recomends using stock gaskets unless you are rebuilding the bottom end for serious power and high boost... which I am not "Revolution is an abrupt change in the form of misgovernment.", Ambrose Bierce. INSANEDADDY 0 #42 November 7, 2002 Chip, 3psi overdrive pully, exhaust, shift kit, K&N big mouth, It runs 12.80's @108 on goodyears. Not bad for a 4700 lbs truck that gets 16 MPG. VectorBoy 0 #43 November 10, 2002 Change your oil often. Turbos spin at 20,000 and the turbine side heats up something fierce, cooking your oil. Some detonation can be cured with bigger injectors if they are running out of capacity durring high RPMs. KEEP the boost low and have fun. Glen
airann 1 #44 November 10, 2002 SlapsHimself- You are sounding smart these days... can I get a turbo thing installed on my window switch... It doesnt roll up and I get wet when it rains. But then if the window is up I burn up cause the AC switch blower thing is broken. Now what, turbo window and turbo AC. Turbo my speakers too? Why not. I know nothing... NOTHING..... Kris 0 #45 November 11, 2002 Another thing that you need to look into is a turbo-timer. This lovely gadget keeps the engine running for a few minutes after you remove the ignition key. If you're in too much of a hurry to let the engine idle to cool down the oil it will take care of it for you. It will save you big repair bucks in the long run. As for oil, use only synthetic and get religious with changing it every 3000 miles. I have had a few turbocharged vehicles and while the turbo is really worth it, you have to keep up with the maintenance.
