AggieDave 6 #4 November 10, 2002 I just came from Northgate (Dixie Chicken) and what a fucking party, sort of like when we won the Big12 in 1998, its crazy! Hehehe, we just fucked OU...--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline."
SkyMissy 0 #5 November 10, 2002 Uh, not to bring up a bad experience Dave, but us O-State fans are quite thrilled with the fact that you guys humped OU the week after taking one from us! By the way, A&M was my 2nd favorite team this weekend. (That position rotates with OU's schedule!) Congrats on the win! P.S. The cadets at the OSU game were EXTREMELY polite fans during and after the game. Kudos to you guys.________________________________________________ Mike
AggieDave 6 #6 November 10, 2002 Thanks man, the Corps of Cadets will always be very nice at games, until someone makes a unforgivable mistake. Something like rushing the field. Kyle Field is a war memorial, there are 55 American flags that fly over Kyle Field each football game. This is for the 55 Aggies who died in WWI. Take note (Nebraska) if you rush the field, you will be stopped, very untactfully. I wonder what OU's BCS standing will be now? hehe--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline."
Zlew 0 #7 November 10, 2002 Must have been about as good of a feeling as Tech had winning at Kyle field this year. We never win at Kyle field! I'm going back to lubbock next weekend to see the Tech UT game with my college roomie. Should be a good time even if we get stomped. Z

MrHixxx 0 #10 November 11, 2002 Quote Take note (Nebraska) if you rush the field, you will be stopped, very untactfully. I detect a hint of insecurity here... Why the hell would you play a football game on a war memorial? If I were a dead soldier, I would consider it an unforgivable mistake to play a game on my memorial. There are plenty of dead Aggies under Tom Osbourne field from the last time they visited. It's okay though, you can still walk on our field...-Hixxxdeath,as men call him, ends what they call men -but beauty is more now than dying’s when
AggieDave 6 #11 November 11, 2002 QuoteThere are plenty of dead Aggies under Tom Osbourne field from the last time they visited. It's okay though, you can still walk on our field I know that you were trying to be funny, but that was out of line. Over 44,000 Aggies served in WWII, 18,000 were officers, 18 were generals. This is an exmaple from one war, we've been in every war since the Spanish American War and we take our war memorials very seriously. Kyle Field is dedicated to the 55 who died in WWI, yes we play football on it, but we hold it with reverence, thus only the people that are supposed to be on the field, get on the field. Some ungrateful visiting fan does not deserve to be on the field, they did not earn that right.--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline." AggieDave 6 #12 November 11, 2002 Quote Who/What is the 12th man? ---- The fans in the stands... Sort of. The 12th man is the student body, not all the fans. Let me give you the history of this great tradition and it'll make sense. The 12th man started in 1922 in Dallas at the Dixie Classic (what the Cotton Bowl was before there was a Cotton Bowl). The Aggies had injuries on the team and were running out of players. E. King Gil was called from the stands to suit up for football (he had practiced with the team the year before) and was needed to fill the ranks on the sideline incase he was needed. Hence the 12th man. Now flip to today. At all the football games, the student body stands the entire game, except when the other team's band plays, to show their willingness to go into the game if needed. Now we all know that a fan getting called into the game will never happen, but it shows the dedicated support of the student body to the football team. That is why we're called the 12th man.Neat tradition, huh?--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline."

OATSF14 0 #14 November 11, 2002 As a grad and a fan of OU, if we had to lose to a Texas team, losing to a class school like A&M would have been my choice. WFFC 1 #17 November 11, 2002 Ok, Ok...all chill on the memorial stuff Ok? Now, there are many stadiums out there that were named as a memorial for those who fell in battle. Soldier Field in Chicago is a NFL example. Memorial Stadium in Champaign/Urbana Illinois (15 minutes from Rantoul) has this from the history of their stadium - "The second story is a colonnade of paired limestone Roman Doric columns, representing University of Illinois students who perished in World War I." There is a true meaning behind the stadium, more that just playing sports. There is a higher calling and meaning - lest ye forget. Come for the enjoyment of the game, but respect it's ultimate purpose - a lasting memorial for those who fought for your right to be at that sporting event... AggieDave 6 #19 November 11, 2002 QuoteForgive me for listening to modern television and not listening to Paul Harvey anymore hehe Just about every tradition (every major tradition, that is) at A&M has a meaning and a story like that behind it, it would take a long time to tell all the stories here, etc and NO I'm not going to force you to hear them. However, that's something that a lot of people who never went to school here don't realize, they just write most of them off as "some stupid school tradition." MrHixxx 0 #25 November 11, 2002 Actually, I was trying to make a point. Tom Osbourne field is in "Memorial" Stadium. Let's take some time to count how many "Memorial" stadiums there are... Do any of these stadiums include certain heros and excluce others? Is any one of these stadiums any more sacred than the other? The short answer "No". That is, unless the death of these Aggies in foreign wars were somehow more significant than the deaths of 100s of thousands of other Americans. Is anyone dignified in hiting another person who is excited after a victory from a sporting match? Hell no... It's okay if you beat us in College Station, but if you celebrate were gonna shake ya down, cuz yer not frum here rya boy. I think there were a few poor sports on the field that day and shame on them. Oh, by they way. I am an Aggie fan too... Quote Some ungrateful visiting fan does not deserve to be on the field, they did not earn that right. I guess were all not equal in college station huh? Perhaps the Aggies will have to play with themselves until the rest of the world earns the "right" to be there. This is a narrow and poor precedent to set, especially in college sports. -Hixxxdeath,as men call him, ends what they call men -but beauty is more now than dying’s when
