Michele 1 #1 November 11, 2002 Thank you to all those who've served our country. You allow me to live free and chase happiness. Sometimes you gave simply your time, sometimes you gave your life. Always, though, you gave your heart. Your gift does not go unnoticed and unappreciated by me. You are not forgotten, and you are deeply respected for your commitment and gifts. Thank you. And thank you to the families of the veterans. You who sometimes suffering the greatest loss...you are not forgotten either. And those who served in ways uncountable and unrecognized - thank you, too. For those who currently serve, and face the terror and horror that war truly is with courage and conviction, thank you, too. For without you, where would I be? This is not a nation thanking you, nor is it for one nation's military personnel...this is one lady, understanding how much freedom means, and on Veteran's Day, thanking everyone who has or is serving, and who has fought for that freedom. Muenkel 0 #6 November 11, 2002 5th that! Michele, you're an excellent writer. On a side note: To all the veterans and those who are currently serving. I appreciate what you are doing and what you have done. You are out there putting your lives on the line to serve this great nation and our government rather than sitting around and constantly criticizing it. Stay safe folks. _________________________________________ Chris
jfields 0 #7 November 11, 2002 Quote 10 was about all I could stomach. 10? You were a glutton for punishment. Getting serious.... It doesn't matter whether you did 4, 10 or 20. If you volunteered and served your time honorably, that is all that matters. It is all about doing something for your country when you aren't required to do so. mouth 0 #11 November 11, 2002 We honored vets today at school. Several visited with our kids and told some experiences. I really like one old guy who had lost both legs because he jumped. He saw my pics and talked to me like I was his long lost daughter. His nurse gave me his email. She reads them to him and dictates an answer. He was the coolest. I also called my Dad and told him thanks too. I think he is the coolest veteran around. skybytch 273 #12 November 12, 2002 QuoteThank you to all those serving and all those who have served, including those citizens who fought from the inside in the resistance during WWII..... Good point. Since this is an international group, I'd like to expand that thank you to include everyone who's served their country - whatever country that might be. Those who selflessly put their lives on the line to protect their country and fellow citizens are a cut above the average person. I salute you all. gemini 0 #22 November 12, 2002 Thanks Michele. It feels awfully good to hear that someone appreciates what we were trying to do since so many people still think it was wrong. I think it is also great that so many skydivers acknowledged their veteran jumpers. I had at least 5 - 6 "Thank you" from jumpers today at Spaceland with one homemade thank you card. It was at least 23 years after I got off active duty before I would tell people I was a Vietnam vet because the reaction sometimes was so severe. Desert Storm changed a lot of people's attitudes about the Viet vet. There were a lot of misfits in the military in those days due to the draft, but there were also many guys and girls that were trying to do the best job they could based on what they understood the job to be. It was nearly an impossible war, under miserable conditions, with little support from home except for most of the family and a few friends, and a country torn apart by the war. Thanks again. Blue skies, Jim
