Altitude Withdrawl!!!!

Recommended Posts

I haven't been able to jump since the 20th of october. And even then they were hop-n-pops because the weather sucked all weekend. I haven't had any real air since the 5th of october!

If I don't get in the air before the 20th then I have to go back on the ROPE!!!! I hate the rope...I despise it. I completely understand why I would have to go back an re-prove that I am capable of pulling, but I don't wanna go!!!!!

I know, better safe than sorry, safety first and all. I am just whining. I know I will pull. I have been a very good student, good with stability, I have an excellent arch (the DZO jumped with me to evaluate and said it looked very good and stable...and I was arching so hard that she couldn't keep up with me).

I have been thinking about skydiving non-stop since my first jump in August. I have been going through jumps in my mind over and over and over. I dream about jumping every night. On the way too and from Spokane, WA over the weekend I was constantly rolling down the window, putting on my altimeter and helmet, and hanging half way out the window going 85-90 mph (NOT SAFE), going through my Grad jump. I have 0 anxiety towards jumping. I am very safety oriented of course, but I am not the least bit afraid of going out that door. I LOVE THIS SHIT!

I am getting irritable, and I nearly start to drool when I see all these pics of people having all that fun at these boogies. And I've looped my 200 skydiving movie clips in WinAmp.

The weather is not cooperating with my schedule at ALL!!! And I live 3 hours away from the DZ so I can't just drive out there after school. The only time I can make it is on the weekends and they are not being kind to me (weekends that is). If anyone knows of a DZ within 4 hours of Portland, OR that has good weather on Sunday PLEASE let me know! I need altitude...

Sorry about the book...I just needed to relieve some serious stress.

Don't forget Eugene Skydivers (2 hours) and Skydive Oregon (1 hour). Good weather might be south instead of north.

I have checked the weather for:

Washington
-------------
Blue Skies
Skydive Toledo
Skydive Yakima
West Plains Skydiving Center (Crabtree Skydiving school)

Oregon
-------------
Eugene Skydivers
Skydive Oregon
Central Oregon Sky Sports

Every DZ will most likely get rained on this weekend >:(

I know exactly how you feel. Seven weekends have passed since my last jump (plane issues), so I am back on the rope, but for one jump and one jump only!

Maybe if you give the mechanic some...initiative...you could get in the air sooner...unfortunately the weather gods won't be swayed by any of my lewd acts. And with my luck they are probably male anyways...>:( I am moving to the south as soon as possible!

I learned to jump at Skydive Oregon, when I lived in Portland and very often, the weather to the south was better more often than not. I lived downtown, and SDO was only 40 minutes away. Even if you went and found that jumping was out, you could see if anyone was up for some paint ball...there's a range down the road (Splat Attack?).

The way I see it, you have a few choices:

1) A fella told me about a smaller drop zone in eastern Oregon, which was less impacted by NW winter weather, I can't recall the name of the place, and I know nothing else about it.

2) If you allow four hours of travel time, why not hop on a plane to California or Arizona... :P:P ....or....

3) You may just have to move. Southern California sure is nice. B| While I've never lived in Arizona, I guess it can't be all bad since other people live there...:S...

All kidding aside, I can relate to your pain completely, this sport does a funny thing to us. I started the summer of 2001 at SDO and was in constant withdrawls through the winter. I stayed current, despite the 15-degree (F) temperatures aloft at 13,000ft. Fortunately for my skydiving habit, circumstances required that I move. Now in Southern California, where the weather is always nice, and the jumping plentiful (helped by a kickin' dropzone) and people nice, I endure the same acute pain you're feeling every Monday after a great weekend of jumping. Now if I could only get the willingness to give up my lifestyle so I could pursue this for a living.........[:/]

Blue Skies...
So I try and I scream and I beg and I sigh
Just to prove I'm alive, and it's alright
'Cause tonight there's a way I'll make light of my treacherous life
Make light!

I find that when I can't jump, for whatever reason, then watching videos helps, it helps even more if they are skydiving vids..;)
