Anyone else in DENIAL of skydiving ??

Recommended Posts

Ok, here's the story....

My girlfriend has started doing her AFF a few weeks ago. She is currently up to AFFL3 as of last weekend. So before her first jump she tells me that she is "Just doing it once to see if she likes it." She does, and she decides to do it again "just because she always does things twice." So now after doing two jumps, she is telling me that she does not want to jump ever again :(

She sends me this e-mail yesterday that has the following text in it from a conversation beween her and her friend:

Friend: "hey heard you tried to jump on sat and sun.....you're a junkie!!!!
"
GF: "tried and tried but the stupid rain got in the way.
"
Friend: " so now you have to play hookie, you're still a 'junkie'!
"
GF: "wednesday or thurs! yeah yah! " (stating when she plans on jumping again)

blah...blah...blah...

This is the reply that gets me....
GF: "I can still go to the dropzone that morning and do a couple of jumps. I don't think I'll graduate by then but if I don't keep failing, I'll be in good shape. "

WTF ??? She is telling me that she doesn't want to jump again, but yet she is telling her friends that she can't wait till she graduates!!!

I confronted her about this ( of course she showed me in the e-mail she forwarded to me ) but man... why is she in denial ??

Anyone else experience this or have a S/O that has done the same thing ? do they this so they won't hurt your feelings if they decide not to continue jumping, or what ???

BTW - it's all cool with her and I . She is playing hookey on Thursday and we are going to the dz to jump!!! Hear that Deuce ?? Be there!!

Butthead: Whoa! Burritos for breakfast!
Beavis: Yeah! Yeah! Cool!

Where can I jump at DZ.com?;)

Some people do things to surprize others. I know one person that did AFF during the week with out their friend knowing and the staff was'nt allowed to tell and they surprized them on an after grad jumpby getting on the plane to the amazement of their friend, then proceded to jump with them.

On the other hand I know a few people that graduated then walked away since "they never start something then don't finish it".

Yesterday is history
And tomorrow is a mystery

Well, it's not really a suprise that I know about it. It's more like her saying she is not jumping anymore and then going the next weekend and jumping....weird:S:S

Yeah, I can hear you now!

Thursday is not likely. Not impossible, but not likely. Pile of work. Got a kid birthday to go to on Saturday too, so I'll definitely be out on Sunday.

Dudelio, committing to skydiving is like buying a nice car. You can't justify that you NEED it, it's just something you WANT really bad, to the tune of a couple hundred dollars a month.

The two women I did ground school with and I never did a tandem. They both did their AFF 1's successfully and never came back.

See, Matt, it's like shooting heroinB|. There's "chippers" and there's "mainliners". Chippers shoot the smack into their skin next to ther vein, and get a nice mellow buzz. Guys like you and me tie off and hit the big blue vein in order to get that fuzzy view of the face of God.

Yeah, I'm an airbath junkie. Skydiving makes me well.;)

A certain prose to that. Good words. Had the same conversation when I sold my last sports car. Nobody "needs" one. I don't know why skydiving is so good, it's not just the adrenaline. After a while, that chills a little. Flying with my buddies is something I just can't describe.
