christoofar 0 #1 November 13, 2002 Just wanting to take a pulse out there to see what's up. I've heard lots of stories, conjectures, rumors about all sorts of DZs. No need to spew DZ rumors, just give an inclination at how things are doing at your dropzone. ____________________________________________________________ I'm RICK JAMES! Fo shizzle. wlie 0 #2 November 13, 2002 Well my old DZ got shut down after our #8 went in. He was like busted for trafficing drugs and shit. That took out he finance dept., so we couldn't afford fuel for the skyvan, and the bank repossessed it not long after. My other ride is the relative wind. freeflir29 0 #4 November 13, 2002 My DZ has been generally slower all year. The tandem and student business has been OK but the up jumpers just haven't been out like they were last year. The bad part is that it's not that they are jumping other places.....they just aren't jumping. I think it has mostly been an effect of the economy. Of course...one of our quite regular AFF instructors has been out a lot more because he is jobless. Poor guy....he was making OVER $100,000 a year. Now he has been unemployed for most of the year. At least AFF students put SOME money in his pocket. One of our TM's will be jobless come Dec 15th. He was going to start skydiving full time. Until he broke his ankle a couple weekends ago. Talk about crappy luck!!! It's still going though. Last I heard we are going to get a King Air. That plane will be owned by the DZ instead of the leased Otter we have now. If i make the job change I hope to in the next few weeks I won't be around as much. I'll be doing lot's of traveling.

In general what I've understood is that the industry is down in the 30% range (students and up jumpers) for the season this year..., some DZ's seem to be holding level, but I know of a few who have taken a fairly big hit. Deuce 1 #7 November 13, 2002 I'm lucky. We've got a 206 we use during the week, and we switch to the KingAir when we get enough people. 4 skydivers and we're flying!
