Sonic 0 #1 November 14, 2002 Rant: Just had to reinstall XP . It's not the first time I've had to re-install an OS, but I have a lot of work on my pc, and it has to be handed in tomorrow. I thought I'd lost it all at one point as well as all my music (all 11Gb of it), plus about 15 movies, all my other docs etc. Thank god they were on a seperate drive !! Been meaning to format for a while now anyways At least my pc loads fast now ----------------------------------- It's like something out of that twilighty show about that zone

Sonic 0 #3 November 14, 2002 Well that goes without saying (although my housemates have copied it all to their computers, and have added quite a lot to it ) ----------------------------------- It's like something out of that twilighty show about that zone

Spy38W 0 #6 November 15, 2002 Quote3 words... backup, backup, backup... Winbloze will fail, it's only a matter of time. Which brings about a question... what's a good program to use for backup, or should one just go through everything manually and do it by hand? I bought Roxio CD Creator (or whatever it is) after XP rendered Adaptec Easy CD creator useless, but the backup program isn't compatible with XP.... -- Hook high, flare on time
PhillyKev 0 #7 November 15, 2002 XP has a built in backup program which is basically Veritas Backup Exec Lite. Works pretty well.
WFFC 1 #8 November 15, 2002 I currently just burn all my important data files to a cd once a month, so I do it manually. When I did have multiple systems, All the important files were stored on the server and I was using ArcServe to back everything up. It was efficient, but it's also an industrial strength application.----- ~~~Michael
Rdutch 0 #9 November 15, 2002 If your going to format the drive when you re-install it. Make sure you make a 4000k parition for just your OS. that should be enough for it to operate, and that will leave the rest of your hd open for other stuff. Also you shouldnt need to format the drive to reinstall xp you can do an overlapping installation where it will just cover your previous instalation. Is your Xp a (DEMO) one that you dont have to register? If it is dont install service pack1. Also I recomend if you format use NTFS. Unless your using two OS and one is pre2000, that wont work with NTFS. Ray Small and fast what every girl dreams of!
MyUserID 0 #10 November 15, 2002 It's situations like this that make wanna caress and kiss my external USB 2.0 hard drive. No matter what my OS does, my mp3s, skydiving vidz, and porn will all be nice and safe. My last laptop (2000-2002 R.I.P.) only had a 5GB internal harddrive which is what prompted me to get the external in the first place. But it was so convienient for keeping all of my files and now I can still use them all on my new laptop. I love technology. ------------------------------------------------------ Remember kids, eagles may soar, but at least weasels dont get sucked into jet engines.
