Scoby 0 #26 November 15, 2002 QuoteI can cook pretty well..I lived in an area where there were LOTS of different types of restaurants, so I had to learn to cook all different types of food, or I'd succumb to the temptation of blowing all my money in restaurants. I'm starting to cook a lot more, partly because I was spending too much at restaurants, and partly because I'm getting fat. I can't remember much from cooking classes in high school (I was only taking them for the free food), so I'm pretty much starting from scratch. I'm getting better quickly, though. christoofar 0 #27 November 15, 2002 When I was in size 42"w pants, I was cooking in addition to eating all sorts of bad shit. It was bad. I still miss that sweet corn smell when getting the flauta shells ready, rolling tortillas and sampling tangy pico before I put it in the fridge to chill. I also had to give up every singe cajun dish I know... so no more jambalya or gumbo. Since I've doke Atkins, I've been able to cook up a lot of unmarinated fajita meat and if I have time to cook in the mornings (rare) I will fix up a Spanish omlette, loaded up with taco cheese and pico. I've been eating a LOT of BBQ lately (almost to the point where I'm getting sick of it). ____________________________________________________________ I'm RICK JAMES! Fo shizzle. christoofar 0 #28 November 15, 2002 Quote Self control is the worst on friday afternoons at the chinese buffett. I can relate to that! There is no way to eat that stuff on Atkins. ____________________________________________________________ I'm RICK JAMES! Fo shizzle.
AggieDave 6 #29 November 15, 2002 QuoteSince I've doke Atkins You know that the Atkins diet is really unhealthy for your body, right? I'm not a high-protein diet nay-sayer, either, its just not healthy, there are much better ways to get fit and loose weight. Have you seen the book Body For Life? That's what I would recommend to you.--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline."
SpeedRacer 1 #30 November 15, 2002 Last couple of months I've been developing the beginnings of a spare tire by not exercising much (except for way too many of those "twelve-ounce curls." ) so starting this week I've gone back to the gym, cut out drinking, etc. (sucks cause I got 4 cases of delicious assorted homebrew in the basement), not eating too much.. But what works for me is this: Eat less, exercise more. I've never been on a so-called "diet" in my life. I don't know why people try to complicate shit like this by coming up with all these screwy diet plans/regimens. My stepfather does that shit, because he's too lazy to exercise, and the diets by themselves either don't work or only work a little bit & only temporarily. AggieDave 6 #31 November 15, 2002 QuoteEat less, exercise I know you know this, but cut back too far and you body will go in a starvation mode, not burning as much fat. Body For Life isn't a fad diet, like Atkins, it teaches people about proper nutrition, how they should really eat (balanced diet, etc) and gets them on the road to a good excersize plan.--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline." SpeedRacer 1 #32 November 15, 2002 Oh, well that sounds good. I am eating less, but not a ridiculously small amount. Just enough. The trick is to realize that there is a lag time between when you've had enough and when your stomach realizes it. So you stop eating when you're maybe only 3/4 satisfied. Then fifteen minutes later, you will actually feel full. Speed Racer --------------------------------------------------

My stepfather does that shit, because he's too lazy to exercise, and the diets by themselves either don't work or only work a little bit & only temporarily. I kind-of combined several ideas. When I was in HS I weighed 235 max... mostly because I was forced under pressure from my coach to stuff as much carbs as I could to stay a linebacker, and I reluctantly complied. When I moved to Corpus, a LOT of weight came off cuz I couldn't bring myself to touch mac n cheeze, bowls of spaghetti, bowls of cereal in the morning, etc etc. I also did more exercising than just trying to be an inertia block and picked up windsurfing. When I moved back to San Antonio, I went back into weight training but I run more than anything else. Now I'm @ 157 32"w... I don't EVER want to anywhere back to where I was... never never never never ever ever! I guess what's really unhealthy for me than anything else is the fact that I chain smoke. ____________________________________________________________ I'm RICK JAMES! Fo shizzle. AggieDave 6 #34 November 15, 2002 Go to Barnes and Nobles or Hastings or something and look at the book Body For Life, flip through it. You might like it's approach. Now that I'm able to start running again (or any other agressive cardio, for that matter) I might actually look like I can give nutrition advice again in 3 months. (I haven't been able to do any sort of hard cardio, like cycling or running since I blew my knee up this summer).--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline." The purpose of a cardio workout is to get your heartrate up and your breathing faster. I get up early and watch porn flicks. It accomplishes the same results and it's not as bad on my knees. I am getting "tennis elbow" though.
