christoofar 0 #1 November 15, 2002 My right knee is flaring up again when I went out running last night. Do those supermarket/CVS pharm braces really work? I crashed my left knee in Rantoul (yes, the bicycle) and used one for a few days until it stopped hurting... but my other knee has been throbbing since I put 2 miles on it and now I'm hopped up on Tylenol. ____________________________________________________________ I'm RICK JAMES! Deuce 1 #4 November 15, 2002 The best stuff I ever used over the counter was Aleve, the other anti-inflamatory, I can't recall the generic name, begins with an A I think.... I suggest using one of those ice packs with the velcro. Those neoprene braces are great for keeping the joint warm and loose, but I've had the most success keeping inflamation down with ice and anti-inflammatories. Heat therapy has never worked for me. I've had multiple injuries to both knees, ankles, and feet. Staying off it long enough to let it heal is the hardest thing.Good luck! JP Kill me now. It's Naproxen. sunshine 2 #5 November 15, 2002 Aleve is the best non-prescription thing out there. ___________________________________________ meow I get a Mike hug! I get a Mike hug!
Scoby 0 #6 November 15, 2002 Alleve is naproxen sodium. It works better, and lasts far longer, than all the other NSAIDs. The generic works just as well as the brand name stuff. Definitely the best over the counter anti-inflammatory.
JumpNFly 0 #7 November 15, 2002 Ok, Dr. Gretchen is in the building and here for all of your medical emergencies... Number one, RICE, Rest Ice (20 on 20 off for 1 hour, put a damn cloth around the ice pack and keep it pretty tight) Elevation Compression(goes with the ice pack) Do this after any activities and before bed... Number 2 Take the aleve or Motrin, 600-800mg's 3 times per day... make sure you eat with it... and the braces aren't that great!!!!!!!! The key to walking on water... clrarch 0 #8 November 15, 2002 I've had many busted knees (three surgeries on the left knee, kneecap that didn't track properly on the right)---all brought on by years of basketball, rowing, skiing and running. I've taken Aleve, Advil, Tylenol...I've iced and elevated, done physical therapy, yoga.... All of those things have definitely helped at points in time, but nothing has helped as much as acupuncture. I go once a month and I haven't had to take painkillers in almost a year.
JumpNFly 0 #9 November 15, 2002 hee hee, but the pain killers are the fun part. The key to walking on water... Is knowing where the rocks are

Actually, aren't they both technically NSAIDs? NSAID = Non steroidal anti-inflammatory drug.

I usually take 4 advil, so when I was offered Aleve after a hard day of 4way, I was like OK, took 4. everyone was like, you know you're only supposed to take like 2 a day of them. They kept an eye on my I don't think it affected me to much (well, maybe my therapist would disagree....)
mouth 0 #15 November 15, 2002 That be the case then you can take as many as you feel necessary of whatever you feel necessary. Man what a tolerence. I take 2 Alieve and I'm gone for the duration. You must store the excess in the extra foot you have on me. . -- Hot Mama At least you know where you stand even if it is in a pile of shit.
