Sonic 0 #1 November 16, 2002 Is it possible to move an operating system accross drives (from C to D) without having to reinstall? Or what about reinstalling it and transerring all setting accross? [edit] Windows XP Pro----------------------------------- It's like something out of that twilighty show about that zone

Reinstalling will keep the worries down. Think of all the 1,000s of registry entries that have a path that starts with "C:\..." in them somewhere. ____________________________________________________________ I'm RICK JAMES! Fo shizzle. bwilling 0 #3 November 16, 2002 well... it's possible to just 'move' the OS and all the apps from one drive to another, but it will break lots of stuff. When the OS and (most) apps install these days, they write settings they need to the Windows registry... settings that may/will still be referring to the OLD drive letter, until you manually change them using regedit, or re-install... Spy38W 0 #4 November 16, 2002 Silly question, but why do you want to do this? -- Hook high, flare on time
lummy 4 #5 November 16, 2002 hmmm... just copy? Are you a masochist? IT can be done, BUT A) you'd really want to use some kind of imaging software to do it (Like Ghost) because there are many files that won't just COPY over (System files) B) You will need to switch the drives to make the D drive the new C, nothing will work otherwise.. It CAN be done by hand, BUT to be honest, if you have to ask the question, you probably don't have the knowledge to do it on your own. Also, the time it would take to go thru everything and change it, I could rebuild the computer using the install cd's and have finished a few beersI promise not to TP Davis under canopy..
