flyhi 24 #5 November 15, 2002 You getting a bonus? If so, is it worth it? And remember, in the military, sometimes bonus is two words. Shit happens. And it usually happens because of physics.
freeflir29 0 #6 November 15, 2002 Quote You getting a bonus? He should be getting a pretty good one. They would have paid me $24,000 to reenlist in 2000. Of course, then they really screw you on taxes. I think I would have actually pocketed $12,000 cash. Which comes out to a WHOPPING $3,000 per year. I said No thanks..... steve1 5 #19 November 16, 2002 Wingnut, Be careful when you re-up. They may promise you things that may not happen. I jump with an airforce EOD skydiver at Minot, N.D. They told him that if he would re-up they'd give him HALO and jump school. After he re-upped they changed their mind. It was an empty promise. I hated many things in the military, but if I had it to do over again, I think I'd have stayed in. I think the key is getting the right job. If you can get the right job, it would be worth it. There's also a lot of bullshit to put up with in a lot of civilian jobs. I have major issues with authority figures who try to jerk you around. It may be easier to quit a civilian job, but not always. Sometimes you can get locked into a crap job on the outside also. One thing about the Air Force, is you're treated more humanely than most people in the Army. I'm sure you already know all this by now. Steve1

KawiZX900 0 #22 November 17, 2002 i was thinking about re enlisting, for shore orders, and going to school. but then, i sat down and really thought it thru, not a snowballs chance in hell. I did my 5. served. BTDT time to move on. saw a guy re enlist. when he was honorably discharged the captain asked him if he had anything to say as a civilian. this QM2(SW) says, yup. "fuck you" then looks at the xo and says the same... needless to say the captain did'nt think it was funny, or "get it" and the next day the "respect commitee was formed...... yup... Accelerate hard to get them looking, then slam on the fronts and rollright beside the car, hanging the back wheel at eye level for a few seconds. Guaranteed reaction- Dave Sonsky
riggerrob 643 #23 November 17, 2002 "respect committee" Ha! Military bosses have to earn respect. After 13 years in the Canadian Armed Forces, the air side chief lied to me for the third time in less than a year and I "lost it!" I started filling out release papers and never looked back. The sad thing is that those a--holes never knew why I left and are probably still playing their same childish, self-defeating games.
bobsled92 0 #24 November 17, 2002 Well, an idea on other Armed Forces is a quote of my Dad's (all the time) "Go Air Force, it's cleaner, good food and better locations. -He was burried as a Brig.
